Description My Victorian Peacock costume I designed. [link] Inspired by Victorian fashion and of course the beautiful peacock. Worn over full victiorian undergarments, including my corset. [link] I used 15 yards of blue satin for the skirt, overskirt drape, collar, and train. I spent over 100 hours handbeading the bodice and the trim around the sleeves and skirt drape. Each of the 200 peacock feathers I sewed on individually by machine onto the detachable collar and train.
Total cost = $350

Victoria DID become empress of India, so this could have happened via use of Indian peacock feathers.
Gorgeous work.

Alright, I am totally amazed and enthralled by your craftsmanship. Now, I have an proposition. How much would you charge to make me a similar dress? I work at a Renaissance Festival in Oklahoma, and I play the part of the caretaker of the peacocks that are on the grounds. This would be a perfect dress for the Masked Ball we hold.

i typed in victorian and this was the first thing that caught my eye. its simplicity was so fresh. and the blue is such a bold colour to match with peacock feathers.

nice one. what's next?

i'd say at least $800.
simply gorgeous.

LadyViktoria In reply to jadedecaro [2009-11-28 16:46:05 +0000 UTC]

If you'd buy it from a seamstress, I'd imagine it'd cost you some $1600-3000, easily.

The price here seems to be the material costs. I'd like to know the working hours that went into the gown in stead, that defines quite a bit better what it'd cost when sold.

Actually male peacocks shed and re-grow their tail feathers each year. I bought all my feathers online.
