Yeah, I've kept them confined to my friends for the past few years, but since they're busy with work and one's without a computer for the time being, our RPs are on a bit of a hiatus. So in addition to those (whenever they do come back), I joined a new RP group here on dA to pass the time. I needed a reason to come back to this account, lol

I do a lot of RPing on Twitter. Turns out it's a really nice place for it. Way better than Tumblr...

I have an irrational hatred for Twitter, so I haven't RP'd on there. I've tried Tumblr RP but none of my attempts lasted long enough to test it out. But I imagine on long chains, it starts getting to be too much for the way the reblog system works. xD
Nowadays, if it's not long form on a forum, it's restricted to chat (especially Skype).

Twitter isn't bad /for RP/ purposes. Tumblr is just a bunch of kids that take their characters and only worry about flirting around. It's pretty dumb. Also yes, long chains are a pain in the ass. Twitter is pretty crystal clear on things.

For me, Tumblr is better for character RP if it's in the form of an ask blog. I've seen tons of great character ask blogs that even incorporate drawing responses and stuff as well.
I've never actually been able to navigate Twitter, lol. Like, with retweets and stuff. But it seems like the format is much better for short RPs, but the character limit would kill me. I tend to ramble when I get really into posts, lol

That's why you make multiple tweets. Twitter is a lot cleaner and honestly much easier to navigate than tumblr. I do run an ask blog on Tumblr, yet I still get a lot of childish people in the community. ask-themoonacolyte.tumblr.com/

It heavily depends on the fandom on Tumblr. As a Homestuck, I can vouch the Homestuck fandom can be very problematic. I wouldn't make an ask blog or RP blog for that sort of thing (even though I have like a million fantrolls I wanna RP asjhdjkashdjk).
Also, if you take off the ability to have anonymous asks, you might have a better time. People will abuse the shit out of anon. Even then, Tumblr's not for everyone. I personally don't like open RP and prefer to keep it between one to two people privately, haha.

Yeah, I know. Sometimes anons can ask some nice questions though, but depending on how many troll asks I get I just might close it, but it's not just anons that ask me dumb things. The League of Legends champion I RP as has a very 0 bullshit policy. She has a very tragic history that's made her devoid of any emotions and even killing. Yet, here I get people who act all stupid hyper and ADD around her expecting the same from her. I've even had people complain and ask why she won't make friends with their characters. They don't understand she's someone that doesn't trust anyone nor does she care about friendship. The complicated times of RP...

Kinda sounds like people who don't understand how characterization works. I always find that with more serious characters, people will give them the "Draco in Leather Pants" treatment, i.e. they portray them as misunderstood loners who would totally open up to the right people if you push the right buttons (that, and they try to say their aloofness and sometimes douchey behavior is 100% justified but you see that more with self inserts). "I can totally fix them, they'll come around if my character shows them what happiness is!"
No stop don't desist

I hate people who are like that so much. I've had people come up and try that with Diana. "Oh she's just grumpy and sad, maybe my happy sunshine, hyper, and cheery attitude will fix her! Yaaaay! "
NO. Characters don't just instantly and easily change after something mentally tragic has happened to them.

A lot of characters are ruined for me because of misinterpretation. Sometimes fandom can make characters a lot more interesting for me, but then there's those who are like NO I CAN NEVER UNSEE NOW. I don't let random strangers "change" any characters I play, lol. It has to be done with a reliable partner and while still in character, but unfortunately, that doesn't happen very often. orz
