Once when I was about five years old, my parents and I went on a trip to the now defunct SeaWorld Ohio. I remember getting to feed a dolphin while we were there.

BionicDolphin [2012-09-26 16:08:04 +0000 UTC]

The shape of this dolphin seems a little inconsistent and heavy on one side. In addition, I'm not able to 'read' where the spine is in this painting so it seems the dolphin is turning awkwardly. When sketching this out I'd suggest flipping the canvas periodically to ensure the drawing isn't weighted to one side.
Phins are damn hard to draw front on! You've done some very nice water effects here and the light refracts just like it should.

I admit, the anatomy indeed is not the greatest, though the biggest mistakes are in the head alone, and not in the rest of the body. I have flipped the canvas several times to get rid of as many mistakes as possible. This is the still from the movie I used as reference: [link] So as you can see, the 'face' is supposed to be a bit different, and the whole head shape actually, but the body itself should not be too wrong as it is, I believe Thanks very much for the comment and the critique!

Gorgeous and very cute painting! I love the pose. I've always found it quite interesting seeing common dolphins in different poses, I like seeing them front on, they look quite odd but still cool national geographic always has great documentaries on whales and dolphins.

namu-the-orca In reply to whitefang4000 [2012-07-31 14:50:05 +0000 UTC]

Aww, of course I don't mind you asking! I simply used a round brush with hardness varying from 30% to 89% and opacity between 5% to 52% all at various sizes

Absolutely stunning! Not only the picture( which is really beautiful with the sunlight coming through the water like a spotlight on the dolphin.. ) but the idea or theme of liberation.

Wow this is amazing o.o
It's times like this when I wish, I had some artistic friend, but alas I'm the person who does all gift drawings.
It's a shame, because I wouldn't mind such gift and I'm sure your friend will love it.

Stunning! Heya, Namu, I haven't commented on your work in a while! Eeep, it's a COMMON. My favorite! This piece really portrays what a meeting would be like between a human and dolphin. The water is incredibly done; I always love seeing reflections in water art!
