I have always held firm the belief that education is the best form of contraception. Yes, it's true. Because teenagers need to be educated about their own bodies. They need to be educated about the part of our nature that drives us to seek physical, sexual experiences.

I mean look at it this way - if you are pro-life, then obviously you'd agree that lowering teen pregnancies would definitely be a step in a good direction towards lowering abortion rates. Abstinence is the only sure-fire way to prevent pregnancy, that much is known.

But Biology and Psychology show us that the mind of a teenager is still growing. It's shown that in adults, different parts of the brain work together to evaluate choices, make decisions, and act accordingly to each situation, but in the teenage brain it doesn't always work that way.

Discovery Health's article on this uses the example of an entertainment center that hasn't been fully hooked up. "There are loose wires, so that the speaker system isn't working with the DVD player, which in turn hasn't been formatted to work with the television yet. And to top it all off, the remote control hasn't even arrived!"

This isn't to say that teenagers can't make logical, appropriate, and responsible decisions. I'm living proof of that (not to toot my own horn but hey). During my teenage years, sure, I was an emotional wreck and full of anger, angst, and every other emotion under the sun. But I never drank, I never smoked a cigarette, I didn't have sex, and I didn't do drugs.

But anyway, the point I am making is that teenagers aren't always going to listen to their parents - sometimes they will choose their hormonal commands more than their paternal ones. And sometimes that leads to sex. And you know what? That's alright. So long as they do it in a responsible way. But they can't do it responsibly without education.

Now anyway, the point of this stamp is not to encourage unruly, crazy, whatever behavior in teenagers, but rather to point out that there are places where they can go for help when they want to make responsible choices when it comes to sex.
