Description Wow, I never realized that dA had a section for actual printmaking processes...

Ahem. Anyways. This is one of the prints I made for my final Printmaking I assignment - made using the intaglio process, using an etched plate. This is the line etch print of my plate - hence the 1 in the title (number 2 is the aquatinted version I had to do as well, which I have yet to scan). Intaglio is so lovely...and was such a relief from the previous color relief assignment, which I did not like nearly as much.

I don't like this scan. ;_; Honestly, it looks better in person; I had to scan it in two parts, since it's a 16 x 13 piece and my scanner can't scan things that aren't just a little bigger than a normal sheet of paper in one go. In the process of splicing it back together, it gained those gray areas on it. Bah.

Fafnir is a dragon from Norse Mythology. I chose that name mostly because I thought it sounded good. *cough*

About the picture: printed using an etched 12 x 9 copper plate, with dark brown ink on cream Stonehenge paper.

Would have been black ink on white paper, but the store was out of white by the time I got there (and I was too cheap to pay even 5 cents extra for the "warm white" color), and I didn't think that black ink would look as good on the cream.

This looks very beautiful! So, this is etched into a metal plate?

Not this exactly, but it was printed from an etched copper plate, yes.

Thanks.

Thanks. ^_^ Yeah, it did, somewhat...though it wasn't necessarily hard, just a bit time-consuming.

o.o Wow. Absolutely amazing, if ya ask me. I can't spot one single flaw in the dragon, and the head looks awesome.

Very, very nice

The sepia tones give this a nice mood. I want to call Fafnir here a "Pangogon" or a "Dragolin" or something, just cause of the resemblance to a pangolin's armor on its back. I think my favorite part of the design is the horns on his head.

Also, this is nice because it's really different. You don't see actual...y'know...PRINT prints on DA very often.

No, you definitely don't (and even fewer are the ones that are presented well enough. I cringed at all the gray backgrounds I saw in various pictures whenever I browsed through the prints section).

I'd go for "Dragolin" myself, since it comes out a bit more easily.
