History
Renza Terrell, formerly known as Renza Blair, grew up in a sleepy little town that was deeply rooted in its traditions and ancient values. Namely, men did the work, women kept the house and tended the children, and said children were to behave. From an early age, however, Renza took issue with this way of life. The older she got, the more she began to act out. This included skipping out on chores, running over rooftops, snapping back at her parents when they ordered her to do things… One such occasion of disobedience proved costly, as entering the forge house and playing with the silversmithing tools resulted in setting the building on fire and burns on her arms. For a short while after that, she behaved, seeing now the sense in why her parents hadn’t wanted her to be playing around with fire, but once her parents tried to take advantage of her renewed obedience, Renza snapped back to her rebellious ways.

Renza’s only consolation in this suffocating trap of a lifestyle was when her parents took her along to market days. All the colors, sounds, smells and people of the markets were exciting for her. She even managed to learn to take care of herself a bit when some of the mercenaries hired to protect the traveling caravans agreed to teach her one or two fighting moves if there was time. Such activities were hardly fit for a young lady though, and her parents decided it was time to do something about her. An older gentleman in their home town had expressed an interest in making Renza his bride when she was old enough, so her parents made the wedding arrangements. He would take their headstrong daughter off their hands in return for the security and connections his wealth and prominence would provide.

As soon as she heard what her parents had planned for her, Renza knew that the time to escape would be now or never. On what was to be her last trading trip with her family, Renza slipped away into the crowd as her parents and two younger brothers were packing up to head home again. Acting quickly, she joined another trading caravan that would be leaving the city before her parents were, and even better, this new caravan would be leaving in the opposite direction. She was gone and away before her parents even realized that she was missing. As a further precaution, she cast off her old family name of Blair and chose a new one for herself: Terrell.

Though she doesn’t know exactly where she’s going after this, or what she’ll do to support herself, the first essential step has finally been taken. Renza is free… and anyone who tries to take that from her is in for a hell of a fight.

Her path becomes clear sooner than she'd planned: she ends up joining with a small, ecclectic band with the intent of preventing some great evil from destroying all they've ever known. This group included an ice dragon who saved Renza and remained with the group from there on out. Compared to the others in the band however, Renza is not the strongest fighter; luckily, the other members of the group, particularly the dragoon, have been helping her train. At this point, she can almost match the speed of a werewolf. Almost, but not quite, and she still has a lot to learn in other areas of combat if she hopes to survive the dark times ahead.

Personality/Likes/Dislikes
Upon first encounter, Renza appears to be rather sullen and highly irritable. Blunt when she speaks, Renza has a tendency to blurt out her opinion or indeed any commentary regarding the situation. More often than not, she comes off as very rude, and more often than not, that is her intention. Her quick-to-flare temper makes itself known fairly frequently, but it’s as much a defense mechanism as it is because she’s actually irritated. Having grown up in an environment where suppressing one’s true thoughts and feelings was encouraged, and even enforced on occasion, she doesn’t always know how to express how she’s really feeling or how to react to certain situations. She’s also used to having whatever she says be reprimanded or ignored, so she’s feels like she always has to be on the defensive.

Renza has trouble trusting others, having grown up with parents who couldn’t and wouldn’t understand her needs and who never listened to her. Along with this comes a blatant disregard for authority if she can’t see a sensible reason for why she’s being ordered around or for why she’s being told she can’t do something. One of her least favorite phrases is “You can’t do that.” If she ever could come to trust someone, or at least respect them enough to be willing to behave around them, Renza could even become a little over-friendly.

Besides dreaming of freedom and escape, Renza wishes she could fly. The thrill of jumping from rooftop to rooftop or from tree to tree is exciting, but she’s always been envious of the birds, and the dragons, with their wings… She’s also fairly decent at woodcarving. A habit she picked up during the long hours she’d spend exiled in her room, she finds it soothing and enjoyable.

Strengths/Weaknesses
Renza’s skills include being able to handle throwing knives and dual swords, thanks to those mercenaries from past trading trips who were willing to take the time to teach her some moves. She bought her own weapons with her own money and practices every chance she gets, so she knows how to use them efficiently, even if there’s still much she could and wants to learn. Her aim with the throwing knives is pretty darn accurate though. Perhaps it’s from picturing the face of her betrothed on the targets she uses for practice. Running over rooftops has made her swift and nimble with a decent sense of balance, though not without receiving some painful lessons and some broken bones first. She also has a persistent will to live.

Ever since the incident in the silversmithing forge, Renza is terrified of fire. Though the burns on her arms have long-since healed, the scars on her flesh are a constant reminder of the accident, and of the home she hates. Her headstrong and fiery nature tends to get her into more trouble than is healthy, and her quick-flaring temper can make it difficult for her to think clearly in situations where a clear head is needed. Used to going it alone, she’s not used to asking for help. She wouldn’t be able to stand up for long against a much larger or stronger opponent. In such cases, her best bet would be to run, but since she’s too stubborn to leave anyone behind to fight the foes alone, even if she doesn’t know them, her hard-headedness could get her into serious trouble as well.

Renza seems to be the only human with which Yarthel is able to communicate with, and as they grow closer, a telepathic connection between them seems to be growing. The addition of his voice occasionally echoing through her head can be very distracting though.
