Description Another coastal shot, again this time in a different style than I would usually shoot.

The light was very overcast but the results were pretty amazing considering.

This is also different than my usual style as its in landscape orientation, and also the main subject is central and dominates the image.

I quite like it Enjoy!

I'm kinda wondering about the other's comments... I think it's exactly the colours and the rocks that make this picture, the composition is perfect in my eyes

I've liked a lot of the waterscapes you've submitted this week, it seems as though you've hit a groove.

Personally, I like shooting in flat overcast light, you get some very even lighting conditions and it gives a whole different mood.

This is beautifully composed, plenty of space around the rock and lots of detail and texture in the rocks.

Good stuff

thanks buddy , as always your support is greatly appreciated!

Waterscapes are pretty much my fortΓ© I think. I really want to work on my landscape techniques but theres no bloody place I can find that really grabs me! Its all too cluttered with trees or telegraph poles etc.

overcast conditions can bring some brilliant results on the coast, unusual composition but I like it

Wow, I love this one. Having the rock in the centre works so well because it really demands attention. The soft water and the rugged rock work so well together. Love the colours too! I really need to get to the sea!!

I really like this shot. I like the way the rock is very prominent in the frame and the way the sea/sky has gone very 'wispy' because of the long exposure. If the sky and sea were more defined, I don't think it would work as well. Fantastic!

just a suggestion.. wouldn't this shot look better in a b/w, tinted in a somewhat similar tone? maybe you could post such version too. it would be nice to compare the two.

Neutron2K In reply to menca [2008-07-20 11:07:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks buddy.

I did consider BW, but I like it with the colours. I'm not into the habbit of doing duplicate shots in BW and Colour. I prefer natural shots, as close to the conditions they were shot in as possible. I also don't submit duplicate work in different styles.

Thanks for the suggestion tho - You may be right with the B+W Idea. Like I say, I did consider it but then I thought, it was shot in colour so should remain in colour

menca In reply to Neutron2K [2008-07-20 11:48:09 +0000 UTC]

understood.

in fact that's very close, (or even exactly like) to my own preferences. though lately i've been heavily reviewing the whole idea of perception in photography, as i got a feeling that this "max close to the natural" thing started to limit my choice of creative options, or smth like it.. hope you understand what i mean.

but of course all this is highly subjective. i think the main thing is that you as a photographer are satisfied with your results. or at the very least with your creative progress that would someday lead to those results. and sometimes it's almost funny, how the shots you thought were throwaway and bad, may end up even more popular than your "good" ones.. go figure

If I may ask, what filter did you use to manage 30s shot like this in the overcast day ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neutron2K In reply to fadilfb [2008-07-20 10:37:22 +0000 UTC]

This was using a Less 0.75 ND Filter, and a Lee 0.9 Hard ND Grad for the sky.

This was low light levels in the early hours of the morning at around 5.20am (My camera time is out by an hour!)

I am going to invest in a BW ND1000 filter (10stop) so I can get even longer exposures but I rarely want to go longer than at most, 4 minutes which is easy to obtain after sunset and pre sunrise.

It would be even more great if there would not be those rocks at background, only this one alone. I think.

Thanks buddy

Unfortunatly I have no way of moving the rocks from the scene I think their a bit heavy Also I don't agree with removing items from a frame that form part of the natural scene and landscape. Only removals I do are dust, litter and telphone poles / wires lol

glad you like it
