Description This is a picture that I've done to apply for one of 's adoptables. #5 to be specific.

The creamy stallion who I'm calling Orion is the one that I'm applying for, the brown mare is my own character, Nolie (No-Lee)

I'm so happy with this picture! The flowers aren't great, I probably need to work on that. I'm really happy with the butterflies though, and the clouds turned out pretty well. I waned to try a different style of clouds than usual.

Name: Orion, Which means 'Dweller on the Mountain' and is also a constellation of stars representing a hunter in Greek Mythology.
Gender: Stallion
Height: 17hh
Personality: Orion is the leader of a fairly large wild herd. He is a fairly strict and tough leader, and most of the members of the herd would call him cold. However his herd means more to him than anything, he knows all the names and stories of al of the horses and foals. He always keeps an incredibly close eye and ear out for the safety of his herd. He would risk his life to protect any horse without a second thought.

Background story: (Sorry for the length!)

Orion was born in the herd of an incredibly violent stallion who would brutally fight any other stallion that got in his way, and injured any foals in his herd that weren’t his. Orion’s mother knew that Orion wasn’t the stallion’s son, but since he had inherited a silver buckskin coat like hers she managed to keep it a secret. Orion grew up in fear of being discovered and quickly learnt how to be careful and quiet. From watching the lead stallion’s many fights he learnt how to fight well, though vowed never to be as horrible as that stallion. He never wanted any horses in his herd to be as scared as he always was.

When he grew old enough he left the herd as soon as he could. He had never made any friends in the herd because he always had to be careful of what he said around the other horses. With his rare and beautiful coat, impressive height, and fighting technique, he quickly gained a small, but impressive herd. He had learnt and grown to be detached from other horses though, and rarely talked or spent time with his herd, other than to watch over them.

One day, after a particularly hard fight, Orion left his lead mare in charge of the herd and stumbled down to a nearby river to clean the large gash down his side. He found a pretty, but rather plain brown mare with a star drinking at the river. Instead of running away like he expected her to at his presence; she simply stood there, watching with interest as he attempted to get the water on his back.
“Want some help?” she asked in a sweet, calm voice, splashing some water up onto his back.
“No,” Orion growled grumpily, he never liked to need help from anyone. The cold water was soothing on his wound though, and washed the worst of the blood off.
“I’m Nolie,” she told him, striding over confidently. Orion was slightly annoyed at the way she didn’t seem intimidated by him at all, even though he never really insisted timid obedience from his mares. He also noticed that she was much taller than he had expected, almost the same height as him.
“So, looks like you were just in a nasty fight,” she noted, casually flicking more water onto his wounded shoulder with her hoof. When she looked up again, directly into his olive green eyes, he noticed the beautiful turquoise blue colour of her eyes, enhanced by the striking white line under each eye. He also noticed that her amazing eyes were filled with concern. He could not remember the last time that anyone had felt concerned for him.
“I’m Orion,” he told her, wondering why his heart started fluttering when she smiled sweetly at him. “I was fighting for my herd.”
Remembering that he was a big, tough stallion, he tossed his silver mane, craning his neck to appear as tall as possible, “Why don’t you come back with me?” he asked, attempting to cut her off and drive her back to his herd.
Nolie just smiled and slipped easily away from him, prancing to the other side of the river on her long, caramel coloured legs.
“I’m afraid that first you have to win me from the leader of my herd,” she told him, laughing slightly.
Orion frowned, “And who might that be?”
“Me,” she said simply, then with a flick of her dark brown tail she went cantering off through the forest.

Orion was enchanted by the brown loner mare and continued to pursue her for weeks until she came into his herd. He made her lead mare because her sweet, gentle personality and kindness towards the herd balanced out his cold, firm personality. She was also the only one that would willingly stand up to him. Eventually he realized that he had fallen in love.

When Nolie’s first foal died before birth, she was distraught for days, and nothing that Orion could say or do made her feel better. About a week later Nolie found a small, terrified foal that had become lost in the woods and immediately became attached. Her attitude brightened at once, and she concentrated on caring for the colt. Orion was against her keeping the foal, he could see from the feathers tied to its small tail that it belonged to an Indian (Native American) tribe. He told Nolie that she couldn’t take an owned foal, although the real reason was that he was jealous that the foal had been able to cheer her up when he couldn’t. He was upset that there was another creature that Nolie loved as much as she loved him. The foal had suffered a blow to the head though, and couldn’t remember where he had come from or anything about his past. Wanting to make Nolie happy, and feeling slightly sorry for the foal, Orion let her keep and raise him.

Nolie named the foal Tomahawk after his Indian heritage and the fact that the scar on his face was shaped slightly like one of the Indian axes. Orion was always a little jealous of the foal, and unintentionally tougher on him than the other foals. But although he would never admit it, he grew to love the splashy brown colt, and was more protective of him than any of his own foals.

I had lots of fun writing that story!

Tomahawk is another horse that I am applying for from Here’s the picture of him [link] .

I really hope that I get Orion, I’m already incredibly attached to him.

Holy bajebus
How the hell did you do that?!
Dude, this is probably the best picture of a horse (well, two in this case) I've seen in a LONNGGGG time. Maybe even ever
I really like your new style. It's the perfect balance of simplicity and detail, which I think's pretty hard to achieve.
You've really improved recently man. Keep this up, and you'll be like, famous

Now THIS is definitely the best piece you've ever done! I love the style you've come up with, you should definitely stick to it I really hope that you get both Orion and Tomahawk so that I can see more picture of them I love Orion's fluffy mane! And the shading and highlights on Nolie's mane is really cool

And I'm in love with the background. You're going to go insane when the trial runs out and you don't have the grass tool anymore aren't you? I like the clouds as well and the way the flowers are really pale and almost see through

I'm using this icon a lot

And their story is so sweet Great job Opal

Thanks!!! I'm really happy with my style now too, I'll definitely stick to it

Lol, yes I wanted his mane to have a shaggy look and it mostly became fluffy. I'm happy with it though I also really hope that I get both of them!

Yes! It's going to be horrible when I don't have my beloved grass tool! I have learnt how to make my own brushes (sort of) so I may be able to figure something out. Or I'll just have to get CS4!

Thanks, the clouds were just a splotchy brush that I shaded a bit, and the flowers were a brush too that I just coloured more, same with the butterflies

Thank you!

This is wonderful! The picture is gorgeous, of course, but the backstory is really fantastic as well! You've done such a good job bringing the character to life. I really love it! Thank you so much for applying.
