Quick sketch and colour i did of Emma and Jean, as imagined in my highschool AU story .Emma is of course wearing an inappropriately short skirt and baring her mid-riff, while bringing her outrageously expensive hermes birkin bag (but its not like she owns a bag that isnt expensive, so…)
Jean is of course the girl next door in an adorable cardigan and skinny jeans , still looking like a million dollars.Note the little phoenix necklace she always wears.

The funny thing is that I imagine Emma is at least ten years older then Jean. At least she seemd older then the young X-men in her first appearence and in the Claremont run... so basicly if Scott is in his 40's in the comics these days (Is he? I'm not sure. Still going on my reading from the beggining of the X-men and I'm in 1997 now) Emma should be like, 50?

i always thought she was around the same age, but i started with newer x-men titles and basically read backwards. she does come off as older in her first apperances, but that mightve been like the same case as rogue, where they were introduced as older but the writers backtracked and wanted them to be younger.
In generation X scott lobdell answered a fans question in the Q and A pages and said emma was 23 at the time of that series. i think this is the first time anyone ever put an official age on her. so whatever age you put on scott and jean around the phalanx covenant event is where they match up : )
i try and think a lot about comic book ages but in the end its kind of useless hahaha

Yeah. That kinda thinking you got to lose while reading mainstream comics, or you can't enjoy them.
I'm reading Gen X right now, and really enjoying it (even more in comparison to the other X-franchise in that age - the dread 90s - that were figuratively crap), and altough Bachalo draws Emma like a young person (you have difficulties some times to distinguish between her and Husk) the way she dress, the way she speaks - I would say it much more fitting if she was in her 30's at least (or even 40's). With all due respect for appearance and the western worship for juvenility - making her 20 takes some of the class this great character has.
