Description
This was an exciting project for me to undertake. This repaint is based from her performance at the 1990 MTV Awards and is my absolute favorite of not only her performances but era of her entire career.

I wanted the doll's expression to evoke the same playfulness and flirtatiousness as Madonna projected during this performance. The base doll used was a Tonner Carmen del'Orefice doll but worked surprisingly well for Madonna's portrait.

The stunning outfit ensemble was a commissioned piece created by Tamara, an incredibly talented Ukranian doll seamstress and replicates Madonna's famous outfit, right down to the minute accessories.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area and an even greater challenge of recreating a real person's likeness. Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.
