Im not sure that I would wear that. Ive seen magnesium burn before and I dont want to think what that could do to a person.

titanium burns just as intensely! i like to save up my chips from machining titanium and magnesium and then lighting them. white hot!

It can be scary. What is it about the more industrial metals that you like? You seem to work in a lot of metals that are seen more often in industrial applications. It goes well with the sort of clean industrial theme that runs through most of your work

i worked as a machinist for 12 years, so it's really about doing what you know. those metals lend themselves to the machining processes i use. i've also got training with precious metals, but after learning all those techniques, i ended up going back to the machines.

It's a chunk of a mine wall! Made into a ring! Awesome.

Very different from your other work. I love the clunky feeling of this piece.

it's good to break out of my comfort zone (though it's not too far out). i'd like to try doing some organic pieces. that would be a departure.

I'm the complete opposite. When I worked in jewelry, I mostly did organic designs and struggled with geometric designs.

I love the look of this ring. The idea of putting a rough stone in it makes it just that more unique and awesome.
Just out of curiosity, what method did you use to make the main body of the ring? I wanna say it looks like you've cast it with lost wax, but I don't want to assume too much.
In any case, I've loved seeing all the work you've posted here, and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you.

thank you.
i machined the magnesium to make the ring. it started out as a solid block of magnesium, i milled out the finger hole, then milled or ground the facets. i would be afraid to try casting magnesium due to its flammability.

Absolutely love the "primitive-ness" of this piece. There is a really nice contrast between the precision faceting of the magnesium and the rawness of the sapphire.

Oh man, I love this one. The stone would probably start to feel really clunky and get snagged on a lot, but I really love the faceted shape of the body of the ring.

thank you. the piece of magnesium i used was only big enough for this. if i make any others like this, i'll probably use titanium...i've got a lot of that.
