Description The Lynx Carbine (Miklos Mk. 4952 in Outlands canon, yet another work I've started many times and never finished) painstakingly (and stupidly) colored in MS Paint. I could have used a greater number of colors in my palette, but I am lazy. Still looks OK, though the metal isn't as dark as I'd like, and I am not satisfied with the shading under the stock around the mag and trigger guard.

If this rifle was real, I'd buy one.

You have good taste in rifles. I love the old wood-stocked semi auto battle rifles with the protruding magazines.

I'd like to have one of these in 7.62mmM43!

Umm... Where's the rear sling post?

Why on Earth would you want it in 7.62x39mm instead of 7x46mm Murray? Besides, basically what you've described is a Vz, 52/57.

The rear sling post is drilled, and I have neglected to put the actual post onto the rifle. I should get on that.

7.62 is in good supply here. And if zombies/russians/jihadists come crashing in, I could always grab some extra ammo from Santahamina.

Oh, well a fictional (or at least experimental) caliber for a fictional rifle seems to be just the ticket, don't you think?

And yeah, 7.62x39mm is definitely in good supply across the pond, too. I've got about 3,500 rounds myself.

But why would you choose the Lynx for zombies/Russians/jihadis?

AK or any other assault rifle would be overkill (esp. against zombies), and I'm trained for aimed shots instead of bursts. So a semi-auto carbine would be good enough as a starting weapon at least. Your weapon seems reliable, sturdy and easy to use.
SKS would be nice, but the stripperclip is slower than a mag.

Why would the AK be overkill? It's capable of controlled semi-auto fire (I own a Yugoslavian example in semi-auto), especially your Finnish Rk. 62 and Rk. 95TPs. I don't see any reason why you'd prefer the Lynx over those rifles.

I just like the way the Lynx looks.

I'm thinking of the legal side. Privately owned full-auto isn't exactly legal here (except for collector's items). "Starter weapon" is a term used for a weapon owned pre-crisis. If it works, it'll be good throughout the crisis, but there is always the option of looting corpses (and the base at Santahamina).
Semi-autos have no option of "rock and roll," which is a waste of ammo to begin with.
Maybe it's the feel of it. I prefer the old-fashioned stock to modern weapons. Somehow feels more comfortable.

The Rk.62/76 is a good weapon, the finest AK rehash there is. the Rk.95 is also excellent, but it is heavier (strengthened for rifle grenades).

Also, why wouldn't an SKS meet your needs? Examples can be found that feed from AK mags, and all others can be used with detachable aftermarket SKS mags.

I'd have to find max. 20rd mags for it, then. 30rd mags lift the rifle a bit too much. With the Rk. the mag is used as a mono-pod, but with traditional rifles and carbines one can lay lower due to the sleekness of the stock (and smaller mag). Easier to lie undetected and for an ambush.

A fair enough assessment.

Right, but who said an AK-47 needs to be full auto? Many AKs are semi-automatic, including the one I own. Is there something in Finnish law against owning a semiauto AK clone?

Tounushi In reply to Nolo84 [2010-04-19 07:55:30 +0000 UTC]

No, it is actually encouraged.
But it feels somehow weird having a "neutered" assault rifle. If I wanted one of those, I'd get an old semi-auto "only" FN FAL (the only measure against switching to auto was a small tab in the way of the selector), and convert it to full-auto capable (just in case).

Nolo84 In reply to Tounushi [2010-04-19 14:59:31 +0000 UTC]

Right, as I recall Finns love their guns and guns love their Finns.

Somehow I think that's even less legal. As well, having a full auto FAL seems really silly.

Tounushi In reply to Nolo84 [2010-04-19 16:14:51 +0000 UTC]

It was to drive a point.
But I was serious with the FAL. The old civilian models were basically 1-to-1 repros of the military model. One only had to file down that small tab to enable full-auto selection.

Nolo84 In reply to Tounushi [2010-04-19 17:49:18 +0000 UTC]

Right, but I still don't see why you'd want a full auto FAL.

Tounushi In reply to Nolo84 [2010-04-19 20:40:53 +0000 UTC]

Why would I want a semi-auto-only assault rifle?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Tounushi [2010-04-20 01:33:53 +0000 UTC]

Because it carries three times as many rounds as your semi-auto carbine and the fun switch is frowned upon in most "civilized" cultures.

Pretty sweet man. I love classical looking rifles, and this one reminds me of one of my German favorite, the G43.

Oh, the Lynx/Miklos is chambered in 7x46mm Murray, I neglected to mention. Earlier examples are chambered in cartridges of my own conception that predate the 7x46mm.

Nolo84 In reply to GundamGPO3 [2010-04-17 23:19:10 +0000 UTC]

There's a good bit of G43 in there. And Vz, 52. And Garand. And M1 Carbine. And SKS...

I lament that the G43 had such a rough unfinished look. A properly machined example using peacetime construction would be quite the looker.
