An aloof and impish merman, Sal likes to tease others just to get a rise out of them. Those who fall for his teasing might see him as an arrogant person who thinks himself better than everyone else, but the ones to see past this facade will eventually learn that he's anything but selfish. He always returns favors, and is not afraid to stand up for himself and those important to him. In exchange for his loyalty, he would only ask not to be tied down - almost nothing is more dear to him than freedom. It's a desire so strong that it shaped his independent and hard-working mindset, as well as his unwillingness to rely on others.

History:
Sal was found as an infant by a childless fisher couple after a great storm, his biological parents unknown to him. Nonetheless, his new human family raised him like one of their own and he had a happy childhood, despite them leading a very modest life. As he grew up by the seaside, Sal learned to fish from his father and everything about trading and bargaining from his mother. Their happiness was threatened when the father fell ill by the time Sal was 17, rendering the man bedridden and unable to work. The young merman did everything he could to support his family, but the medicine and doctor's bills were expensive. One day, a rich aristocrat came to the small fishermen village. Apparently, rumors about a merman living among humans had spread to the outside world. The woman loved to collect rare and exotic specimen, be it monsters, animals or magical beings. She offered to "buy" Sal for an amount that would solve all of his family's financial troubles. Torn between saving his father and preserving his own freedom, he eventually caved in and agreed to go with the woman. The following years he lived like a bird in a golden cage, a cage that he yearned to escape.

Fortune smiled upon him at last when he managed to flee the noble's mansion during a housefire. Careful about keeping a low profile, the merman roamed the land while he took up odd jobs here and there. While he could've returned to his old home whenever, it was the first time that he got the chance to see the world. The many years in captivity had also left him starved for freedom. For a while he wandered without a goal in mind, and the roads eventually led him to Ogregati. Something about the peaceful yet lively place fascinated him and his restlessness faded away the longer he stayed. About a month later, he'd settled down permanently and even opened his own stall at the Witch Market, providing the townspeople with freshly caught fish from the lake.

Misc.:
His stall is open every day, except on Sundays and rainy/snowy days.
Can often be found hanging out at the lake or nearby inn during rain and snowfall.
He only takes on his mer form when his legs and feet come into contact with water or snow.
Only wears shoes during winter.
