Looks so...austin power'd xD
I guess it's mainly because of Kefka as the evil cat stroker.

Well, who was I to resist the idea of Kefka stroking a white cat? It came to my head and I just plain had to use it. ^_^

One of the best cast ensembles I've seen.
But yeah, FFVI is definately a 1960's spy thing, you didn't even have to use Shadow lol.
Nice job, you've captured two essences with one picture.
...lousy hippies not even aware of the danger... umm... sorry, wrong rant.
But still, flower power didn't end the Cold War. In communist Russia, all flowers freeze... okay bad joke, I'm going to go now.

Haha! That's great! They're so darn... perfect!
(If you had had Emperor Ghestal going "we will bury you" I think I would have died of laughter - I had to play him in a Government class)
There are so many little things I love about this drawing. Like the "President of the Republic of Figaro" seal! It's so darn cute!
Anyway, GREAT job!

Groooovy. ^^ (I'm very short on time right now so if you don't mind I'll give you my thoughts on this here and then read your site commentary when I have time- so, um, apologies if I end up repeating whatever you said about it )
Goin' from left to right⦠ooh, Cyan as the disillusioned Vietnam veteran. That makes senes since he fought for his kingdom only to see it taken away by a sneaky villain (much like soldiers who fought and came home to nothing because politicians and the public alike wanted to put the war, and the stigma it carried, behind them).
Ahhhh, that's Sabin (although the blue headband threw me off for a second or two.. XD;; ) Would've been funny to see him sporting Bruce Lee's iconic yellow sweatsuit w/ the black stripes on the sleeves, but I guess that's more of a 70's reference. It's true! He doesn't believe in fighting- even though he has the most devastating special moves and no temper. ^_^ (well, he's anti-government, for sure)
Locke as the original 007. You know what's really funny, Yoshitaka Amano designed Cyan based on Sean Connery (when he played Ramirez in the first Highlander movie) so maybe you were alluding to that meta-joke with Cyan given Locke a disapproving glare. ^^ Still, can the world trust Locke to protect Fort Knox
:_O's Celes' attire:: Hooray for the opacity tool. Hooray for Piet Mondrian.
Niiice job getting the floral design wrapped around Terra's bellbottoms(?) culottes(?) something-or-other(??). I need to try that in Photoshop eventually. Hehehe, the 60's counterculture were about 'experimental love' and you could almost say Terra came to be because of........
Aha, definitely one of the more offbeat administrations you could ask for. But remember: speak softly and carry a big chainsaw.
Mog β¦he just wants to dance the night away. ^^ (for some reason I could also see him getting into fusion/progressive jazz, but they didn't really have a definitive 'look' to them) =\
Oh dear, traveling across the skies in the world's only Mile-High Club & Casino. XD
^^ I haven't done much (read: zero) research on the Beat movement, but curious to see Relm with straightened hair. (Ohhhh, gosh, I don't suppose Jackson Pollock or, better yet, Andy Warhol would have made a better combination for her XD)
Even in drab gray, Kefka manages to make it seem gaudy. ^~ Random: nice work drawing the kitty in his arms- that don't come easy.
Aaaaand dear, dear Leo. Way to work in the emblem of the Empire for good measure. Can't agree more, he IS a general but still treated like an utter pawn in the inner workings of a megalomaniacal monarchy.
Well that's all the ammunition I got. Guess I'll hearing more from you later~! ::Escape::

Well. Okay, this is a lot to reply to.
Cyan: Yep, that was idea, although Cyan is actually around 50 in the game, so I took some artistic privelage and cut his age in half. In FF70s I had Cid as disillusioned vet too... more because I had nothing better to do with him ^_^
Sabin: Yeah, there aren't many monks in 1960s popular culture. I figure Sabin's not the type to fight unless he has to, and for something he believed in. And he hated his home government. Sounds like a hippie to me.
Locke: His look was a byproduct of Celes' look. I have this idea of Celes sort of being this spy disguised as a dancer. Celes and Locke are supposedly a couple, so it was a natural move. I also thought that sneaking Terra out of Narshe was sort of secret agenty.
Celes: See above. That's why I gave her a pistol.
Terra: I had a hard time with her, but I looked at lots and lots of pictures of hippie girls until I found some things that I liked. I originally wasn't going to draw Mog, so I figured since I had a male hippie (Sabin), I need a female one too, and she was the only available woman to use.
Edgar: I originally tried to make him resemle President Kennedy more closely, but, that was HARD! I said to hell with it and figured when they saw a handsome, charasmatic President that the connection would be made. I was also originally going to have Emperor Gestahl as Nikita Kruschev banging his shoe against his podium like the "We will bury you!" speech, but I learned that was from the 50s and scrapped it. I still have my flag for the People's Socialist Empire that I made up. It looks like the old Soviet flag, but with a yellow Imperial insignia in place of the hammer and sickle.
Mog: I didn't want to have any non-humans at first. But I got this mental picture of a hippie moogle and couldn't resist.
Setzer: I drew him first. I'm glad I did. Until I thought of the Cold war elements, and all the British 1960s stuff, I didn't think I'd have enough material to do this decade since FFVI has such a large cast. Then I probably watched Austin Powers or something... I have no idea.
Relm: She could've just as easily been a flower child, but I wanted to make a point here, which is that there was more to the 1960s than what happened from, uh, 1967-69. It wasn't all hippies, acid rock, and mods. Beatniks were more 50s, but they went into the early 60s as well.
Kefka: If I'm going to depict a James Bond super-villian cliche, he MUST be stroking a white cat! I believe it's a law somewhere.
Leo: I got Metal Gear Solid 3 for Christmas last year, and really got into the cold war theme. I thought the Soviet officers in that game had cool-looking uniforms, and the color scheme matched up with Leo's sprite pretty well. So this is a pretty faithful duplication of a Soviet uniform. Can't have a cold war theme without a communist or two.
Then there was the backdrop. I still feel it was sort of tacked-on. Nothing really worked as a backdrop. I tried a bar, which is basically where my last two pieces like this were set (FF70s: a disco called Studio VII, FF80s: an L.A. nightclub called The Garden), and then I tried Woodstock. But it was no good. And frankly after six months I was getting sick of not having this thing done so I just drew whatever came to mind!

I like your style!
A guy who draws like that has a gift and should NOT be depressed!
Go and be a professional artist!
Be happy with it and you'll die happy!
