Description
An episode painting done for a HeartMerlinArt Challenge.Acrylic on canvas board.
(In the reference photo of Aredian that I used the light was falling from the left, whereas in the reference photo of Merlin it was falling from the right. So when I painted it I had to shift the light on Aredian to the other side of his face and try to work out what bits of his face it would hit.)

Just brilliant! I love how you worked the expressions. Your artwork is amazing, all of them really.

this is amazing!!!
the lighting is perfect in my opinion. it looks well balanced, not too harsh and not too subtle. I find a lot of people go crazy with lighting and shading with faces that have a lot of character like Charles' does, so well done
and of course, Colin is gooooorgeous!! you always paint him so lovely!

I think I'm gradually getting the hang of Colin. (Well...sometimes anyway). But I'm going to do a Merlin and Arthur next, and I haven't painted Arthur much, so it will be a case of. "Well, there's Merlin...but who's that random blonde bloke he's with? ...Why is Ronan Keating in Camelot?..."

They BOTH have one of those faces. They are both really hard to draw. Mind you, they are both tremendous fun to draw, at least they aren't bland. *G*

Merlin stuff too - its a painting of an imagined scene where Arthur first sees Merlin using magic (because i want it to happen SO badly in the series - impatience clearly IS a virtue! Who knew!

I'm glad in a way that they've dragged out Arthur finding out about Merlin's magic. I like that tension in the series. But I think next series he's really GOT to realise. If it goes on much longer Arthur's just going to seem terminally dense.
So long as they do a good job when Arthur actually DOES find out though. I want lots of angst and shouting, and then Arthur trying to protect Merlin from anyone else, (Uther), finding out and getting ridiculously over-protective......

Yeah, I do hope they handle it well. Sometimes the writers do an absolutely superb job, and other times they just seem to forget to bother with the emotional impact of stuff at all. (Like when Gwen's Dad was killed, by the very next episode she was right as rain and smiling again.)
