Description
This Christmas I drew my Pop out of the hat in our family secret Santa (we have to have a secret Santa or everyone would go broke buying gifts for everyone in our enormous family) and it turns out he liked my Owl Regent picture that I gave to my dad, but only because of the owl.

Now my pop is mad about birds, he breeds budgies, has a million books and could probably tell you the name of any bird you could point at in the country.

So I couldn't think of a better gift for him than to draw his favourite bird, the Peregrine Falcon.

The story goes that once my pop lived with a man from England, and this man was a Faulkner and brought his peregrine with him when he moved over to Australia, and so my Pop lived for a while with the fastest bird on the planet, and fell in love with it.

I've never had the honour of seeing one of these birds even as a dot in the sky, but I did a lot of research on them, and I have to say I'm in awe, and I'm in love too.

The bird I drew is named Hope and the amazing and wonderful ~Earthhunter allowed me to use this [link] photograph of her as reference. Thank you so much Rich, I still haven't found better photos of falcons than yours!

When I gave it to my pop on christmas day, it was still unfinished, but I ended up getting the last bit of the wing done in january and giving it to him again. He's since got it framed and it is hanging in his house.

I'm so glad he liked it. My pop is one of the greatest people I've ever known, and I wish everyone could meet him and be inspired by him.
