He is absolutely gorgeous - what stunning colours! I would say that he's a combtail, possibly delta combtail.

That's what I would say anyway, but I'm not a betta expert. He looks like a combtail rather than a crowntail because he appears to have only slight webbing - webbing on a crowntail should be at least half of the fin. And his spread appears to be more than the standard crown/combtail, so I'd say delta tail. If he's still very young, he could turn out halfmoon or even halfmoon crowntail, as mature fin forms don't show until they're older.

He really could turn into a halfmoon?? He was small when I got him so I assumed he was really young so that would be awesome

Yeah the difference from when I use the tank like or use my flash it's like night and day. One of my bettas looks purple under his tank light and greenish blue when I use a flash

So many of mine I get from Walmart ^^ Socrates looks like one of his parents could have been a halfmoon. That's true about the fins though because some people will have crappy dividers in a tank with two bettas. I've had a betta try to nibble on a crowntail's fins. And I kind a agree with the look. I only like certain fin styles on certain bettas XD You know how there's plakat crowntails? I usually don't like that variation, but once every blue moon there will be a gorgeous one.
