No, I suppose not, Henry, but worth recording as a point of interest in the bird world. There is a slight possibility that the eye is actually still there and that it has a minor injury - if you look closely there is a sort of oval slit partly covered by feathers. But, I'm not sure.

At worst, birds do not fall within the scope of the vet patients, like animals such as cats and dogs.Β If it were so, a vet would have to look at that eye and maybe do something about it - remove whatever could be covering it.Β Well, just my human weakness to feel like that.Β Maybe the bird has just accepted the situation - maybe becauseΒ she does not know anything better.Β But my feeling is not foul because, as living creatures, we are there for each other; even if it be a 'buck-lion' kind of relationship.Β Anyway, its one of those things - accept and move on!!!!

Good points, Henry. No point in trying to take this fella to a vet - just trying to catch the bird would cause it more distress than is worth it. Although injured, I thought he was doing quite well - seems well feed and cocky enough.
Many Thanks
David

True that 'trying to catch it would cause it more distress'.Β Some birds do not mind being too close to human beings while others shy away.Β I have observed doves that come and feed on the grain that I spread for them on our yard.Β Whenever they see any movement, even when I am in the kitchen, they swiftly fly away.Β I think they now know me well because, if they do not see me spreading the grain, they do not come, even if there are left-overs on the floor.Β Once they see me spreading,Β they come around but not too close.Β Some animals - birds too, do not trust these huge animals we call 'human beings'.
