For hand-held, it is not bad, Mike.

Coco - these are resident geese at the lake in Bramhall Park, near my house. They are a bit shy and very active, so you cannot get that close for a good shot, except with a long lens. This shot has proved popular, although it could have been better.
Many Thanks
David

Hi Coco - yes, the general locality is very pleasant - we live near Bramhall Park with its Tudor hall, and most of the immediate area has areas of woodland and avenues. There is a lot of wildlife - grey squirrels, urban foxes, weasels, lots of cats, and lots of birdlife. We are very lucky to live here. But, the wider area is typical urban sprawl, very busy with heavy traffic.

We know about the Australian antipathy towards Tasmania, Coco! I'll have to look on Google Earth and see if I can locate this Southern Land's End.

Gotcha Coco! - Long Live Google Earth - found Springvale - looks like a nice golf course and aerodrome. Also found Wilson's Promontory and the southernmost tip - looks good - my kind of country.

The lens is good, Oriole - so it should be given its cost, but practice is the key especially with hand-held shots.
Many thanks

If this is a test I'd love to see what happens when you get serious. An absolutely gorgeous shot. Appreciate how you've caught the feathers of his body in the background.

Many thanks, Keziamara. Yes, it is a "test" shot in that I have only recently bought the lens. It is a "push-pull" lens so that to change focal length you must push the barrel out or pull it in compared to turning the barrel as in other lenses. The lens is also fairly heavy. All this means that for hand-held shots, as this is, you need to practice to get everything correct. Ideally, a tripod should be used. Here, the focus is very, very slightly off, but overall the shot is OK.

Hi Theresa - thank you very much - droplets are important in these shots, as is focus in the reflections in the eye.

The goose is my local park at Bramhall - they have been a feature here for 20 years.
