"No, you!"

"No, you!"

The sound of bright laughter and the muted thuds of roughhousing colts echoed in the little clearing, a familiar sound for the season. A short distance away, a pale doe smiled faintly and shook her head at her eldest sons' antics, watching them with her soft eyes a moment longer before she returned to her conversation with the other princess she was spending the afternoon with.

At her side, a pale little fawn sat up and watched the two laughing colts with wide eyes, his ears pricked with interest. Every now and again he shifted to try and get a better look at the older colts' game and, from his vantage point a short distance off, he tried to laugh when they laughed, hoping they would notice and call him over.

Except they didn't, far too caught up in their game to pay any attention to their surroundings.

Frowning, the pale colt stood and tried to creep closer, hoping that by placing himself physically near he would be invited into the play session. He was quickly caught by his mother, however, the beautiful doe frowning slightly at him, her kind face soft with worry. "Oh no, my darling; you musn't wander too far," she chided gently, reaching out to tuck him back into her side before she resumed her conversation.

Alhan frowned slightly, ears splaying with discontent. He wasn't going to go far, after all; he just wanted to go play with his brothers.

"Mama, I jus' wanna go there. Not far," he said, his voice still small and slightly whiny with his young age. His mother cast him a second worried look but, seeing the hopeful expression in his painfully blue eyes, she sighed and smiled, sparing a gentle nuzzle for her unfortunately-coloured babe. "Alright, Alhan. Just make sure you stay where I can see you," she warned, before releasing him.

Alhan immediately grinned brightly and pricked his ears, running over to where his brothers were playing, just barely managing to avoid tripping over his own gangly legs. As he emerged into the light of the clearing, his brothers finally, finally noticed him, mirrored expressions of surprise on their face at the surprise intrusion before they settled as they recognised their younger brother.

"Can I play too?" Alhan burst out excitedly, not waiting for either of the twins to start speaking.

The pair of dark colts glanced at each other, seemingly communicating silently, before one of them (even Alhan couldn't yet tell them apart) smiled and shrugged slightly, a patronising expression on his face. "Sure, sure. I don't think you can play fight, though, you're kinda... small," the colt said, frowning slightly.

Alhan flushed under the appraising gaze, shuffling awkwardly. He knew he was still notably smaller than his elder brothers, being a whole two years younger than them, but he didn't much like having it pointed out. Thankfully, his brother didn't linger on the topic, instead turning to confer with his twin on other, more age-appropriate games they could play instead.

Alhan waited excitedly, ears pricked, for his brothers to decide on a game so they could finally get playing. But... one of the twins laughed and shook his head, jostling the other, who then stuck his tongue out and reached forward to playfully headbutt his twin. Within moments, the twins had resumed their earlier game, jostling each other playfully for supremacy and yelling boisterously.

It took a while for Alhan to realise that his brothers had quite forgotten about him and their plan to change games. Frowning, Alhan watched his brothers with his ears pinned back, a mullish expression on his face at being left out.

But it was okay. He'd just stay standing close by here. At some point, they'd definitely see him, and then they'd get to playing.

Alhan was patient. He could wait.
