Description Radiolaria are microscopic unicellular critters. I saw this one in a drop of seawater. Their exoskeletons are often great source material for living Sacred Geometry structures. Often one can readily identify one or more of the Platonic Solids in their body structures.
This sculpture is made of stainless metric bolts welded in spiral patterns to the outside of a stainless,( PAINTED) gazing ball.

This piece is for sale.
Note me for pricing.

Yep,
that's where allot of us first see it ,or in the awesome biological illustrations from the last century by Ernst Haeckel.

I try to work with recycled materials. While I was in school I did a bit of work with discarded railroad spikes. and occasionally would come in with a chuck of random steel or iron I found walking around memphis. it was a lot harder to find used, but not in use, non ferrous metals down there. the only metal you could generally get unprocessed at the scrapyard that wasn't steel was aluminum. and aluminum was almost entirely unused at our school. (except for the occasional late night casting in the sculpture department)

I try to stay away from aluminum, and never weld it.
It's toxicity scares me...

yeah, i wrote a report about aluminum in high school, about how drinking from aluminum cans can cause a slow buildup of aluminum in the system that gathers in your brain and can lead to dementia and hair loss. but its a useful material for somethings.

again, this is just too cool. You so so many great things with ordinary objects taking them to the intagable level of...well greatness. Keep up the good work.

And between you and me, you might want to invest in a better camera.

There's a whole world inside a drop of sea water,
and so many critters that display sacred geometry structures...
Sort of like Dr.Suess' book Horton Hears a Who.

I got a shopping cart of those gazing balls from a nursery that went out of business. They're made in China of spun stainless (very thin),then painted with metallic paint...
