Thank you very much for your kind words. I gladly take credit for the composition, but I cannot take credit for the ship design. That goes to the fellow I noted in the credits.
Thank you nevertheless! I'm glad you like this piece.

I particularly like the dual deflector-dishes set in tandem instead of just the usual single one underneath the primary hull. I always though this should have been used on the ST:II RELIANT, but on the ventral side of the primary hull.

It's not my design, but yeah, it definitely works. Thanks!

She reminds me of the Ticonderoga class Battleships from Star trek Legacy.

Oh my, Star Trek Legacy; been a while since I played that. True, though, there are similarities. Never thought of that. Didn't the Ticonderoga have four nacelles and more distinct secondary hulls, though?

Yes she did, but your design looks like it could pass for a prototype of the Ticonderoga class, or perhaps a cruiser version of the ship.

Well, the ship isn't my design, I just used it, but yes, it could very well be.

Yeah, it's a nice ship design. Like a TOS era Akira-class. Thank you!

Wasn't the Akira class TNG not TOS?

Yes it was, except this is Loknar-class. I belive it's a semi fan-project based design, which, I'm sure, was the predecessor for the Akira-class.

It's a great design, not a lot of room for labs or research facilities. This ship is built to kick Klingon a**

It's a Frigate, so definitely focus on tactical rather than science. Like the Akira in the next generation's designs.

I was never clear on their ship classifications. in the navy a frigate is a small fast, lightly armed ship, smaller than a destroyer.
by the way what is the reliant supposed to be, I've heard it referred to as an Avenger class heavy frigate and as a light cruiser. do you know?

That's a grey area I'm afraid. The Reliant is Miranda-class, and that ship class could be anything from science, patrol, escort to a supply ship (later on). The Miranda-class was later replaced by the Nebula-class, and the reason these vessels could either be science or tactical vessels is the pod they had outfitted on the arms moving upward from the warp nacelles, could either be a sensor pod, or a tactical pod containing photon launchers etc. I guess whether you'd call it a frigate or destroyer would depend on the configuration. Several Miranda-class vessels were assisting the attack on the Borg at Wolf 359, but a Miranda-class ship that was encountered by the Enterprise-D (TNG season 2), the U.S.S. Lantree, was a supply ship. So... your guess is as good as mine.
Looking at this from a production perspective, they obviously had a limited amount of models available and built, so they reused them. Picards first command, the Constellation-class Stargazer, was essentially a modified Constitution/Miranda class. The precursor to the Miranda-class was the Soyuz-class which was also encountered by the Enterprise-D. Essentially the same configuration, but more phase cannons (similar to what the U.S.S. Kelvin had in the first of the JJ Trek movies).
Hope all that blarb made sense!

To some extent it does. I'm not too familiar with the new versions, I guess I'm kind of a Star Trek purest. The new ones are too PC for me.
I guess it's good to have some ambiguity, it leaves more room for us fan fiction writers.

Too "PC"? I've been trying to figure out that abbreviation, but looks like I failed. And purism isn't bad, but in my case I follow the established "canon" guidelines. Star Trek is a time line and each show, in their own right, did a good job in my opinion. Quality wise, depth, characters, they are all equal, even if TOS was the original, and therefore is certainly the source of it all.

Well, I'm probably one of the least politically correct people you could meet, but it's the canon show that got me interested in Star Trek, and so far, any deviation from the established characters, hasn't really worked for me. From fan-fiction, over fan-films, to other incarnations. I suppose you can always argue about details, but them I'm realist enough to understand, that most script writers are not necessarily fans. Sure, there are inconsistencies, but they are unavoidable.
The other thing is that TOS, more than any other Trek show, was influenced by the time it was created in; including fashion, a certain way of thinking that did not account for certain cultures and women as being capable enough to have a command position. Leonard Nimoy and Majel Barrett (and I'm sure others) have both stated that in interviews/their respective books ("I am Spock"). That kind of behavior, thinking and overall appearance would just not work anymore today. I think as far as consistency is concerned, including consistency in episode quality, all the shows have been on a high level throughout. Most new TV shows I can barely handle beyond season 3, because they lose the concept, change things, turn away from the original concept and generally mess things up. You don't have to launch into a diatribe, but if you have a few pointers, I'd be glad to read them.

Okay, one example. in next generation, and all latter series the treaty that ended the Earth/Romulan war started that Earth could not have cloaking technology. Cloaking technology didn't exist, it wasn't even on the drawing board. In "Balance of Terror" Spock states that selective bending of light was theoretically possible but the power cost was enormous. that the romulans may have solved that problem. it would be like the Versailles including a nuclear non proliferation clause. I don't want to be too much of a geek but that always bugged me.
If you want to talk about more about political correctness please send me a note. So everyone can't see. A lot of my opinions are considered unacceptable and could earn me a trip to room 101.

I do not model the ships. If you look at the credit I put in my description, those are the people who modeled the ships I used to compose my image. They are available to download.
However, I occasionally change parts of the models or add items and the software I use is Newtek Lightwave 9.3. It's not free, however.

Well, you could give Blender a go and look for tutorials for modeling on YouTube or other sites. That might be a good first step.
