Description The Cockatrice is among the eeriest predators of the Forest Evermore. Originally engineered to be a superior sort of guard dog the cockatrice has three very unique weapons that few other beast share. First is its terror cackle, a unique form of psychic attack, this hideous warbling sound is somehow able to pierce the very heart of its prey causing them to freeze in terror. It is usually effective enough to buy the Cockatrice a few brief moments to catch up to its prey before they are mentally able to shake themselves loose, at this point the prey still has a fighting chance though a slim it might be.

Its second weapon is the paralyzing gaze. The mechanism for this attack is not yet fully understood but it is generally believed that a unique frequency of eye light confuses synaptic signals of the brain causing the muscular system to seize up similar to an epileptic attack. Breaking free of the gaze is not something that one can just will themselves out of with courage, the length of the effect is different for every creature lengthened by the amount of time spent looking into the eyes of the creature. The coloring and markings of a Cockatrice are designed in such a way that its prey is drawn to their eyes. It is very difficult not to look into the eyes of a Cockatrice and fighting blind would only increase their chances against you.

At this point most targets should be dead, sliced to pieces by the fowls monstrous talons. Normally the cockatrice will rip its meal into pieces and swallow them down in as large gulps as possible, the reason for this behavior is due to its third and most powerful weapon, the petrifying bite. The saliva of a Cockatrice is a unique alchemical cocktail that causes quick acting fibrosis of all of the victims soft tissues within a few brief moments. So potent is this attack that the Cockatrice can't get in more than one or 2 bites before its delicious meal turns into an inedible statue. It's because of this that most Cockatrices have a very gaunt starved look to them. While Cockatrices are incapable of starving to death being in a starved state weakens the potential of its other 2 abilities forcing them into bitter painful existence were they are almost always malnourished.

Just about every part of a Cockatrice body can be used as either medicinal or necromantic reagents. The tail feathers are especially coveted by caster type Necromancers for their boosting effect. A healthy well fed Cockatrice is normally covered in golden plumage, though one should be very weary of well fed Cockatrices as it means there's usually someone demented enough in the area to be feeding them. Its meat is said to be quite a delicacy in cooking circles but few are twisted enough to raise them for such a reason alone, likely they have other secrets they wish to protect or enemies they wish dealt with.

Be it the bravest of heroes, the fiercest of monsters, or the mightiest of warriors, ALL should fear the Cockatrice.

For its gaze alone means certain death.

Hehe I've always had sort of a soft spot for chickens, their such funny creatures yet they will put up a big fight if cornered.

All the worst if they are the size of a small horse. XD
