question, do you randomly put colors on the lines or it some kind of pattern?

oh and to add to my previous comment, the colors on the inside of the lines would be darker than on the outside + i like to add a little bit of a fading effect with making the color lighter where the fur blends with the rest of the body.

typically, the darker colors would be in places that are poorly lit, like the legs, the underside of the ears, etc. the lighter colors could be on top of the head , the back, etc. as far as the hue, i try to stay within an analogous color range.

How do you decide what parts of the lines to change color?
π: 0 β©: 1
parrotte In reply to GutsNGorey [2016-07-27 22:30:27 +0000 UTC]
darker = places where hair tufts meet/elbows/knees/joints/anywhere where itd be darker in general
lighter = tips of ears/paws/top of back

I had a question ;;o;; how do you pick which colors to use for lineart? And how do you know which colors to put where?
π: 0 β©: 1
parrotte In reply to cactiss [2016-07-14 03:14:07 +0000 UTC]
I just pick colors that are near the characters colors (this character is pink, so I go for pinks, purples and blues)

You know... I like the idea of the rigid fur kinda think, but it's kinda funny because it's technically stairstepping and that's always bothered me...
But I kind of like how you look at it! ovo
I always just use smoother lines for my pixels because, again, stairstepping bothers the heck out of me. /v\"
But this is a nice tutorial! Definitely helpful. uwu <3

you can really cheat if you make the edge of it lower opacity so that it's sharp yet smooth at the same time :'>
you wont believe how many things people believe are ugly can look surprisingly good if you do them right!!

Oh. Hm. That sounds pretty helpful, actually! owo"
But honestly, looking at your icon right now and the end result of this tutorial makes me realize how nice it actually looks.
And I've actually been trying to figure out how to do the multi-colored lines like your icon for a while, so this is super nice! uwu <3
