It was a great movie. I'm surprised to see it so popular in America considering its leftist ideas.
The Bourbon Monarchy in Les Miserables is pretty much a psychopathic one-percenter's dream come true. Rich are very rich, poor are very poor, and women are forced to sell their teeth, hair, and bodies on the street just to be able to afford the medical care they need to save the lives of their dying daughters, who are then sold into slavery as well once the mother dies from the effects of dire poverty, rape, etc.

The French people's suffering was horrible beyond imagination but at least they could call on madame guillotine.

There was a recent article in Dissent magazine about the French Terror reviewing the book "In Defence of the Terror: Liberty or Death in the French Revolution" by Sophie Wahnich which states that the Terror was largely done out of a desire for revenge against the heads of the Ancien RΓ©gime since the government was so incredibly inept at doing trials against the newfound criminals.

I'll have to look that up some time.
I've read into the French Revolution a bit over the last few years and that more or less the view of the terror that I come to.
