it's because his "disappearing head" trick wasn't convincing (one could see it at a certain angle). He was there for at most a month.

Ironically, the Hatbox Ghost WAS supposed to come back for the 40th anniversary of the ride (the figure was working as it should) but the money to put him there was needed for Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy
