This image has a lovely natural and almost spontaneous quality to it. The tones work perfectly here, and really suit the classical portrait category
I love her expression, it doesn't seem forced in any way and she makes a beautiful image.
The one thing that lets this image down however, is the crop. I think it would work much better if the leg wasn't cut off, but that is a minor thing that took me a while to notice.
Other than that, lovely work!

Yeah, its a bit unfortunate about the leg - wasn't thoughtfully composed really, was concentrating on her face more (hence the really distracting background which I had to blur out a bit). A couple of similar shots got her legs in, but she didnt have that expression. Wonder if I could stitch them thought...

A beautiful shot and subject. The framing could have been a bit better though. Try putting a small border in dark grey, around the photo, and a bigger and pitch black border around that. Might frame it a bit more. Or, you want to frame the subject itself, chose a colored border - might take away some of the focus, however...

cd collection doesnt seem bad, but the window (or door like thing, whatever) seems a little bit ugly there..

Yeah, its by no means perfect.. it was one of about 2000 shots taken betwen the hours of 8pm and 4am (with a few breaks of course). No studio, so only my fairly small bedroom to work in. Went dark at 9pm, so only a (bloody hot) studio light, built in camera flash and bedroom filament lights to light the subject (and a reflector made out of a baking tray covered in aluminium foil!)
The shots works partly due to the subject (unfortunately just a friend..), and the off-camera gaze with a little catch-light. The framing could have been better. The background is awful! (A bit of a window and half my CD collection) - the background needed a bit of digital work to make the depth of field look even shorter and throw it out of focus..
Got 88/100 in a recent Photography of the Year competition's portrait round, which earnt me joint 3rd place (Digital Camera Magazine, [link] .uk).
Since people seem to like Lisa, i'll post a few more from that session
