It's back-to-back planets with Jupiter! My personal favorite planet, but mostly for its moons, which I'm not quite ready to draw.

Physical Appearance: 259 cm (8’6”) tall. Ectomorph, with little fat or muscle, but not bony either. Round, slightly oval face. Medium brown skin with golden undertones. Round, deep red-orange eyes (though his eyes can change color slightly and sometimes appear lighter or more orangish). Large, rounded nose. Wavy cream-and-orange hair that reaches down his neck on the right but only reaches his ears on the left. Usually wears a shirt that fades from light blue to dark blue with a blue collar and blue spots that become less numerous going down; metallic blue pants with light blue lightning bolts on each leg; a reddish, thin belt; a long trench coat with brown, tan, and cream wavy stripes, red buttons on the cream stripes and white buttons on the tan and brown stripes, and a single red pocket, gray boots; and a blue necklace with a light blue dot in the center.
Personality: “I am not a failed star, because that implies I have failed at something.”
Large and in charge, when Jupiter cannot control others with his gravity, he finds less direct ways of doing so. His relationship with the Sun is strained by his insistence that he’s “basically a star” (but he dislikes the term “failed star”–see his quote). Because of his poor relationship with the Sun, he has become self-sufficient, insisting he alone knows what’s best for his moons and himself. He rules over his satellite system in a tyrannical way, trying to control who his moons interact with, and whose ideas they are exposed to. He tries to shield himself and his moons from the Sun by blocking both the solar wind and the Sun’s suggestions. Still, he has a strong protective instinct, and shields his moons from the worst of the Sun’s outbursts. He believes in tough love, a philosophy that has extended beyond his orbit. He’s just as likely to protect the inner planets as he is to send an asteroid or an insult their way, believing scars build character. But if he believes in the power of pain, he sure isn’t showing it himself. He hides any flaws, recovering quickly from upsets. He rarely smiles, hating any signs of softness. Jovial he is not. He’s secretive, hiding his true feelings about most people. But when he’s angry, he can be a destructive mess of lightning and winds. He can hold grudges for a long time, centuries even. Aside from bossing people around, Jupiter is interested in meteorology and weather prediction, and studies the history of astrology even if he believes it is nonsense. As mentioned, Jupiter has a strained relationship with the Sun. It is said Jupiter doesn’t truly accept the Sun as his superior. Among his moons, his favorite is Io, who is always obedient and never questions his authority, so he thinks. Ganymede is also a favorite but does too many things Jupiter disagrees with. Europa is a fool who keeps getting influenced by the wrong people. And he mostly ignores Callisto. Saturn is Jupiter’s closest friend among the planets and the only person Jupiter considers an almost equal. Saturn helps keep Jupiter in check. He has a love-hate (platonic!) relationship with many people, including the inner planets and the asteroids.
Jupiter is exclusively right-handed. His main power is his strong gravity, which he uses to attract small objects toward him. He also has lightning powers and can use his powerful magnetic field both as a force-field-like shield and as a cannon to fire radiation beams. He can create ring traps like Saturn, but they are so thin that most people can escape from them easily, which defeats the purpose.
Design Notes: Jupiter is by far the tallest planet, though he’s still a full foot and a half shorter than the Sun. He’s of comparable height to the smallest stars, but is much skinnier, with less body mass, than any bona fide stars. His skinniness is due to the planet’s low density, typical of a gas giant. His insecurity over his body type is one of the reasons he wears so many layers of large clothes, to hide his body and make himself appear larger than he already is (as if he needs a height boost). His shapes are mostly triangular, highlighting his harsh, controlling personality. Both the color scheme of his hair and his coat come from the color of Juptier’s belts and zones, the most noticeable feature of the planet’s cloud tops. His coat design is not fixed, but is constantly changing as the real planet’s clouds change. His red pocket, representing the Great Red Spot, also changes in size, as does the color of his eyes (also based on the Great Red Spot). His pocket was sewn over three hundred years ago, so he’s unlikely to lose the feature entirely. The smaller buttons on his coat represent smaller storms. Generally, terrestrial planets with atmospheres wear shorter jackets, while jovian planets wear longer coats. His hair appears windswept. His shirt represents the layer of molecular hydrogen under Jupiter’s clouds. It gets darker further down, as the hydrogen gets denser and slowly transitions to a liquid. The dots represent both helium-neon rain in Jupiter's interior and “sprites” in the upper atmosphere. His pants represent the metallic hydrogen layer, and is therefore metallic but otherwise a similar color to his shirt. The lightning bolts on his pants represent both the real lightning on Jupiter and the planet’s mythological namesake being the god of thunder and lightning. His boots represent Jupiter’s core. His belt represents Jupiter’s faint rings. His necklace represents Jupiter’s auroras, and was a gift from Io and Ganymede.
Expect Saturn in the coming days!
