Description Procyon is similar to Sirius in many ways. It's a nearby star system, a binary with a white dwarf and a main-sequence star brighter than the Sun. It's one of the brightest stars in the night sky. It's even in another dog constellation. Yet Procyon's design is less inspired by dogs and more by raccoons....

Name: Procyon A. Galaxy

Celestial Body: Procyon A/Alpha Canis Minoris A

Gender: AFAB Demiboy (he/they)

Orientation: Biromantic (heavily masc leaning) Asexual

Age: 1.87 billion

Birthday:

Place of Birth:

Occupation: Alien veterinarian, trying to find new odd jobs

Relatives:

Significant Other(s): None

Physical Appearance: 365 cm (12’0”) tall. Ectomorphic mesomorph, with some muscle mass. Round face. Medium dark tan skin tone with several patches of unpigmented skin, the most prominent being a domino-mask-shaped patch on his face; several pale yellow “veins” visible throughout his face and body. Off-white eyes with a slight blue tint. Medium-width nose. Chest-length curly off-white hair with pale yellow streaks. Usually wears a white long shirt with pale yellow lines that converge at the neckline; pants with white, light yellow, and dark yellow splotches; light yellow shoes, an off-white and pale yellow striped coat; and yellow gloves.

Personality: “Okay, I am not going to question where you got that strange alien…wait, what’s that on its face?”

Procyon A used to live a quiet life, but his increasing brightness did more than make him more noticeable. Fearing his death, heralded by his increasing luminosity, Procyon tries to make the best of what little time he has left. Some days he will lock himself in his home, gazing up at the stars as he ponders the passage of time, refusing to let his binary partner see him. Other days he will scout the Milky Way Stellar Club, looking for new friends and experiences. He’s growing less satisfied with his steady, stable job, and searches for things to spice his life up. Yet even when on adventures, he hides behind a fake smile. He can’t find anything to be happy about these days, as every experience comes to an end, every friend either leaves you or dies, every happy feeling is chased away by sadness. His partner tries to get him into therapy, believing he might be developing depression, but Procyon A refuses to listen to him or any white dwarf. He cannot even stand the sight of white dwarfs or giant stars, for they remind him of his mortality. He’s broken up with Procyon B, and chased away Arcturus when he tried to give him advice. Back during the prime of his main-sequence life, Procyon A tried to get into the A List, but was rejected and laughed off for being an F star. Procyon B sought revenge on the A List by trying to expose it from the inside, gathering testimonies of all the stars it rejected. He would blog about his findings, as well as what he discovered traveling the galaxy. He would “rescue” aliens from their native habitats and bring them to Procyon A to look after. Procyon A was always skeptical of his partner’s schemes, and would secretly free the aliens when his partner wasn’t looking. Their relationship was already strained when Procyon B’s death first got Procyon A thinking about his own mortality, and they broke up soon after Procyon B’s death. Today, Procyon A tries to befriend Sirius just so he can talk to someone (from the A List, no less), but Sirius refuses to associate with someone so cold. He tries to befriend Sol, but Sol ignores him in favor of Sirius. So, Procyon tries to get Sol’s attention by getting Sirius’s attention, and the cycle continues.

Design Notes: Procyon A is ending its time on the main sequence, brightening and expanding into a subgiant, and so Procyon is taller than expected for an F5 star. His skin tone, which does not change throughout a star’s lifetime, is typical for his spectral class. He still has the round face of a main-sequence star, but he has some wrinkles and lines on his face that show his age. His star veins are starting to twist and thin. The star rotates slowly, and its larger radius leads to a lower density, so the character is starting to thin and lose muscle mass. F-type stars have color schemes consisting of white and light yellow, with some darker yellow. F stars are commonly seen as yellow-white, even though they are actually white or even light blue. Procyon’s eyes have a blue tint to reflect the star’s true color. His hair is more white, and it has yellow streaks the way a human’s hair might have gray streaks to reflect his cooling and expansion into a subgiant and a red giant. His long shirt represents the star’s radiative zone, with its jagged edges and radiating lines. His pants represent the star’s convection zone. His hair is similar in texture to what Sol or Rigil Kentaurus would have if they let their hair grow out, and this references the solar-like oscillations of Procyon. The rest of his design does not reference the star itself, but rather…raccoons. Raccoons are in the genus Procyon, with the common raccoon being Procyon lotor. This scientific name isn’t a direct reference to the star, rather both are named for the Greek “before the dog” for different reasons. He has vitiligo, which is almost unheard of in Stellar Celestials, in reference to the “mask” of raccoons. The most prominent patch on his face is in the shape of a raccoon’s mask. His coat is striped like a raccoon’s tail. He wears gloves like a raccoon’s paws. The in-universe reason why he wears gloves is to hide the patches on his hands.

Finally for this batch of stars, another bright star, but one I have never seen in person.
