Description Finally, I am here with the long-awaited Mercury! The planet, not the element. The element mercury is still a long ways away, but you can get a non-literal taste of her here . This drawing is from May of 2020, so the quality is not the best, but it's what I have.

Name: Mercury Hermes Galaxy

Celestial Body: Mercury

Gender: Male (he/him)

Orientation: Gray-Aromantic Asexual

Age: 4.5 billion

Birthday:

Place of Birth: Protoplanetary disk

Occupation: Member of the Solar System Squad

Relatives: Sun (father), Venus (sister), Earth (sibling), Mars (brother), Jupiter (brother), Saturn (brother), Uranus (brother), Neptune (brother)

Significant Other(s): None

Physical Appearance: 179 cm (5’10”) tall. Mesomorphic, with moderate build and moderate body fat. Dark brown-black skin tone. Round face. Round grayish brown eyes. Wide, pointed nose. Many prominent scars on his face and body, the most visible being on his cheeks and neck, and the back of both his hands. The scars appear a few shades lighter than the rest of his skin. Wavy-to-curly chest-length gray hair with white streaks and pointed bangs. Usually wears a medium gray long-sleeve baggy shirt, dark gray-brown baggy pants, and light gray sneakers with white soles and wings attached to the back.

Personality: “Sorry, don’t have time to chat. I gotta practice!”

By the time you've caught a glimpse of Mercury, he’s probably already gone. He finds it hard to sit still or stay in one place, always moving around at lightning speed. Though his powers might seem flashy, he’s actually shy, and prefers to spend his time alone. Despite his shyness, or perhaps because of it, he’s seen as the most approachable of the planets, the least likely to scare away a potential friend by being harsh (Venus, Jupiter), overly sentimental (Earth), or so invested in their passions that they don’t notice a potential friend (Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune). When alone, he’s more emotionally open, displaying intense passion that contrasts with his usually cold, distant personality. He might seem to lack opinions, but in truth he just wants to listen to others before speaking. He prefers quiet conversations to large gatherings, and prefers to have a few close friends than many more distant acquaintances. Even though all the planets are close to him, none of them feel like they truly understand him, and his behavior always ends up surprising them. His perspective on the word is….unique, and when he does talk his philosophical ramblings can either be brilliant or absurd. He can be dense, not understanding simple concepts, or trying to explain things in the most complex way possible when a simple explanation would be sufficient. His closed-off, reserved and seemingly emotionless attitude developed to avoid offending the young Sun, who was much more temperamental than he is now. Being the closest to the Sun, Mercury would always get the worst of the Sun’s meltdowns, and so he resorted to being as inoffensive as possible. He wouldn’t speak unless spoken to, nor hold any opinion he thought the Sun would disagree with. Eventually, Mercury developed a passion for sports and physical activity, and today he can usually be found training. His training further isolates him from the rest of the planets, but he doesn’t mind. His closest relationship is with the Sun, a love-hate relationship where the Sun both shelters Mercury from the rest of the planets and blames him for being unable to socialize. Though the Sun’s outbursts are less frequent now, Mercury still fears the Sun. Among the planets, he’s close with all of them, but he’s closest to Venus, whom he talks to about the moonfree life. For some reason humans freak out when he walks backwards.
Mercury is exclusively right-handed. His main superpower is his super speed, capable of obtaining speeds up to 60 kilometers per second in a vacuum (in an atmosphere colliding with air molecules would slow him down). However, he does have the power to heat and cool objects, though he has very little control over that power. He can create a weak magnetic shield and has some control over metals due to that magnetism.

Design Notes: Mercury is the shortest planet, as the real planet is the smallest in the Solar System (not counting Pluto, whose corresponding Celestial is almost a full foot shorter than Mercury). To add insult to injury, two moons are a few centimeters taller than him. Height aside, Mercury’s shapes are mostly square, representing his strong work/training ethic. He is tied with Earth for the darkest skin among the planets, due to the real planet Mercury’s low albedo (it reflects very little of the light that hits it). His many scars represent impact craters on the real planet. His long, flowing hair resembles a comet’s tail, as solar radiation blows the gases in Mercury’s thin atmosphere into a “tail”. His hair is mostly gray, the predominant color of Mercury’s surface, but it has some white streaks, which represent water ice in craters at Mercury’s north pole. Though the planet has a thin atmosphere, the atmosphere is so insubstantial that Mercury does not wear a jacket to represent his atmosphere. He wears long sleeves and long pants despite his proximity to the Sun to protect his skin from the solar wind and meteorite impacts. His clothes are a size too big for him, as the planet Mercury has shrunk as it cooled, creating ridges across the planet. Likewise, the character has shrunk out of his clothes (as if he wasn’t short enough ha ha! [Why do I act like he’s short by human standards, he’s 5’10”]). His shirt is gray, referencing the gray color of the planet’s surface, while his pants are brown-gray, referencing the slight brownish color visible in some enhanced images. His shoes are gray and white for the same reason as his hair. The wings on his sneakers reference the Roman god Mercury.

From now on, I will post the SSS references in order from the Sun, so the next reference will be for Mars. I'm probably going to do some PTE references before that, however.
