Hmmm Coast Guard, are they even near the water?

If you steal an inflatable rescue slide/boat from an airplane and then activate it, then the coast guard might show up; it sends a gps locator signal so they'll know where it is

Just exactly howย wouldย one summon the Coast Guard to a second-floor apartment?
Rooftop tidal rapids rescue. It involves a large hydroelectric dam, a screwdriver, a dozen donuts, a honeycomb, a box of dog biscuits, and a donkey.
And sorry, the terms of the gag order prevent me from going into more detail...ย ย

You know, when she mentioned the coast guard, I thought about an old series I am quite fond of.ย It aired in the early two thousands and is science fiction and myth based and from me own native country.ย It's called H20.ย ย
Several youngsters visit an uninhabited and unincorporated island off the coast of the mainland they live on.ย Few if any people ever go there, as the place is unexplored and likely filled with dangerous natural obstacles.ย Unbeknownst to any of them, the island is host to mystical forces beyond anyone's understanding, and the lives of four young men and women will be irrevocably altered by this and counting.ย ย
More specifically, they find a cavern with a pool in the center of it, and when the reckless, impulsive one who dragged the others here in the first place stumbled and fell into it, it immediately began to bubble and heat up as if it had a mind of its own and was waiting for someone to fall in.ย
Have you ever heard of it?ย As I read it, creatures like the ones featured there do indeed exist here, and some of the people in this party may be like that.ย Are any of them like that? I'd be interested to see how that goes.ย Maybe the coast guard is looking for them.ย Maybe they want to recruit someone who has expanded lung capacity and could hold their breath for fifteen minutes or more if needed.ย And they aren't above crashing a party to do it.ย

I watched the first episode of it some years ago, and then I gave up: As I recall, the writing was debatable and the acting not much better.

Debatable writing?ย What's that supposed to mean?ย In any case, can you name a single live action science fiction or mythological series aimed at teens that wasn't abysmal or mediocre?ย They're like finding a needle in a haystack.ย I think it's one of the better ones.
I think if anyone from the party we are about to see has that condition, they would certainly be wanted by the coast guard as recruits I'd think.ย Expanded lung capacity that enables one to hold their breath for fifteen minutes and thickened tissue that withstands crushing force would be a godsend to them, even more if some of them got it to begin with.ย ย

It's a somewhat polite way of saying it was unwatchable, due to its poor writing and acting. I wanted to like it, but I'm a little bit snobby about film and theater, and I can't watch something whose writing and acting is mediocre or worse, no matter how much I might otherwise like its subject.
And no, no mermaids at the party. They exist -- as established in canon -- but none are coming tonight.

I'd say anyone in the coast guard would have royally won the raffle if that's what they got, and anyone who did would be well suited to the job providing they are so inclined to take it and have the patience needed.ย ย
Not now they aren't, but in the future.ย I'd be so inclined to say they are not fish, but mammals.ย Male or female, they both have mammaries like humans of both sexes have them, classical myths and films, novels and series based on them in recent date typically make some reference to them have to take a breath every fifteen minutes or thirty, others being the exception, and with a physical shape that is primarily human, it stands to reason they'd have lungs, which fish do not.ย Some art shows them with vertical slits on their cheeks, necks, or torsos, usually the side, but they are typically absent.ย And the most popular images are of them sitting on reefs, stone, beaches or ledges/cliffsides, anything that's by a coastal region, and they favour the coast.ย Finally, they tend to have hair, but whether they have scales or not varies.ย I refer you to pachyderms. It's really inaccurate to call them fish when they are clearly mammals.ย Hans Anderson notwithstanding.ย

Coast Guard does help in emergencies involving flooding.ย They technically have jurisdiction over the Great Lakes and navigable rivers.ย
And no unless some of her friends are mermaids now, I don't think the rest of the town would want to see an event that calls out the guard - coast and national.

Does the Coast Guard continue pursuing you if you manage to get past them, or do they hand the file off to the now more relevant authorities? If the former, there's your answer. Even if official policy is the latter, individual members may act differently, especially when the plot requires it. (Depending on how far inland the apartment is, this may not be feasible, but that also tends to go away when the plot says so. Come to think of it, I don't think you ever bothered to nail down where this is happening beyond the usual flippant "the same state as Springfield" sort of response used whenever it doesn't matter)

It's not Springfield. They're in a real place; it just hasn't been said yet. You'll find out in... six months? I dunno. One of the scripts around then will mention enough that you can figure it out, and there'll be future storylines where it'll be painfully obvious. Just isn't needed for the story yet, so hasn't been mentioned.

You are aware that by process of elimination game/film theory over on youtube narrowed it down to around oregon a few years back so both are technically in a real place with fictional timelines and stories
