Description A white tiger at The Mirage hotel and casino cooling off in the water.

I have mixed emotions about wild animals being in captivity.

Same here. I love to go to the zoo and have the opportunity to see such animals up close, but it just breaks my heart to see an animal pacing back and fourth in its tiny enclosure, not knowing what to do, its instints fighting the cage.

Exactly! Bah, it's a shame, really...

I do enjoy taking photos of them, but I feel kinda bad about it.

love the picture.
I love tigers. But I sometimes wonder if it wasn't for people seeing them at places like that would there even be the few left in the wild?
I have been into the secret garden at the mirage and thats a lot more like home for them. I don't think they leave the sameone in the pool area all day they swap them out as the mirage has one of the most sucessful breeding progams for white tigers.

Love the picture tough.

Thanks a lot!

That's a good question... Perhaps it's a really good thing that there are some tigers in captivity so that people can see them and want to protect them. I forgot about that. That makes me feel a bit better about the situation. I've been to the Secret Garden as well. Their cages seem better, but I'm still not totally sure if they are happy with it or not. Ah well, it's probably good for their species... They're probably reasonably happy most of the time, just get bored every once in a while. Yeah, you're probably right. I'd imagine they switch out the tigers. If I remember correctly, I saw a tiger that had less stripes than the one we say a few days later. MGM says they switch out their lions, so I bet The Mirage does so as well. You have a point. If they're really sucessful at breeding their cats, they must be doing something right.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a nice long comment!

I really didn't like that place he was at. It felt more like a human pool to me then a place for a tiger to stay. No trees, grass or anything that resembled the wild.

Nice photograph though. You captured a really nice moment, where he looks relaxed, rather than when he was paceing looking 'insane-ish'. ._.'

Yeah, I agree... I can't say that I didn't like it for photographs though. Hmm, perhaps it has a nicer place to stay in the back? They only keep the tiger in there for a little while...

Thanks! Yeah, it looked so cute and happy while it was in the water, rather than a zombie like it did most of the time... Meh.

Yeah, but they could have had patches of dirt/sand where he could have been more out in the open. He is there from 10:30 a.m to 5:30 P.m thats about 7 hours. Who wants to be moved from enclouser to enclours everyday, though it might not be the same tiger.

It's probably cause it was hot. XP

You have no reason to feel that way. You didn't put him there.

Just thinking about it is all.

I don't blame him/her. If I worked long hours on stage in front of live audiences, I think I'd need a day at the pool myself.

phantompanther In reply to ping-rose [2006-08-13 05:16:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, me too! I didn't even think about that. That could be one of the show tigers. I was just thinking it was one of their tigers they kept in cages in the back and let out in the this one once in a while.
