Description I miss that lumbering Reaver from SC1. I liked it's design of a robotic caterpillar, so I took that idea and changed it up a bit. Keep in mind these unit concepts are more for my portfolio, so don't take them too seriously. As far as its ability, a Robotics Facility and Stargate can be rallied to this unit, this will cause units from those buildings to appear on the field at the Warp Reavers location if it's warp gate is activated (while activated it can not move). The biggest problem I thought of with this unit idea was trying to justify why a player should be making more than just a couple per game. I thought of the idea of limiting one building being rallied to a Warp Reaver at a time, but that's a poor excuse to give players motive to build them. So I thought of a second ability that it could do. Perhaps it could use an energy based ability that sucked in missile attacks, similar to an ability the Mothership had pre WoL beta. It would suck in missile fire in a short cone radius, but this would have to be used wisely, since the Warp Reaver is very slow at pivoting.

You know, I noticed some time ago that the Larva from Hexbug looks more than a little like a Protoss Reaver in miniature--I'm even looking at tracking one down if they're still made and repainting it bronze/blue to look like a "chibi-reaver". My only complaint was that it didn't automatically build more scarab drones, but that may be a game balance thing.

I haven't played Legacy of the Void yet, so I don't know if reavers make a return in SC2, but I hope so. If not, there may be a better version in SC3 (assuming Blizzard makes one).

I'm not sure about the Warp Reaver being able to warp in Robotics Facilities and Stargates (seems a little overpowered to me), but being able to act like a pylon when warping in troops would make sense while it had the warp gate deployed. Alternately, it could function as the Protoss version of a Siege Tank--in Reaver mode, it shoots homing projectiles at the nearest enemy, while in Warp mode, it becomes stationary but gains a cannon attack similar to a Void Ray's (lower power but higher accuracy, perhaps?) Or possibly the Protoss answer to the Spine Crawler and Spore Crawler--basically a semi-mobile turret.

You can use Reavers in the LoV campaign actually. They also let you upgrade Stargate and Robotics Facility unit warp-insΒ within pylon fields.Β

Well, the original Reavers and Scarabs were awesome. The SC2 banelings are kind of like that for Zerg. I heard that Legacy of the Void will show you many different kinds of units and tech that you have to collect throughout the campaign - maybe some unit like this might appear once like the drill in the Terran campaign collecting the artifacts?

Like I've said, I haven't played LotV yet, but yes, you get access to Tal'Darim, Dark Templar, Khalai, and even Purifier designs in campaign mode and can switch between them much like you can change mutations in the HotS campaign. There are some nice, new units for all three races in SC2, and I can't wait to play with all of them! Β

It's got a good balance of pros and cons if you ask me, but I think it could use a tad more refinement. Seems like something a bit high of the mid level of the tech tree and maybe a bit expensive. But something like this could make for rather interesting strategist level thinking. I wonder if the editor can let you do this? Given what was shown back at Blizzcon.

I'd instead make it load ground troops and then warp them. It would be a very slow tank that has lotsa slots and has a warp cooldown.

Might be somewhat OP in multiplayer, but it could be a great unit for LOTV campaign.

Very protossy! I love how you think about the protoss way, and adapt that into your creations. Have you ever read The Dark Templar novels? They are quite gooood.

I recommend if you ever see them in bookstore. It's a great read. Also amazon sell for cheap. Books tell you more about protoss history too while having engaging story!

Sweet mother of god... where you get those ideas from??? This is AMAZING !!!
Oh, btw, i missing in your gallery other (already existing) units from SC2 such as Banshee, Hellion, Raven, Goliath, Phoenix, Scout, Colossus and etc.
Nobody from pro. artist didn't painted it yet. I think (more or less) it can help you to get in Blizz.

What the program do you using for drawings? Is that Photoshop or you draw all those paintings on paper and then scanning with something? How long take to finish picture such as your picture Starcraft Firebat? Sorry for those stupid questions, but really interesting how pro's working.
Some time ago i saw colossus composition on internet, but can't find the normal size of this picture. (he extremely small)

Protoss already have the ability to warp in gateway units with a proxy pylon or warp prism but now this? FUCK THIS I'M NOT PLAYING ANYMORE!

Again another awesome concept phill, I can't wait to see the next one!

Awesome design man.
I would think that it should fire scarabs from that portal on it's back. Inaccurate, must be deployed, but huge damage and splash radius. Like protoss version of siege tank... hmm....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Phill-Art In reply to Pro-roro [2012-12-14 20:38:45 +0000 UTC]

I think if it fired scarabs it would be too close to the original one. X )

Pro-roro In reply to Phill-Art [2012-12-15 00:22:10 +0000 UTC]

I suppose. Maybe a heavy pulse?
But i can see how nice it would be to have a mini stargate in the middle of the battlefield. Reinforcements without the risk of having them shot down en route.
Awesome concept as always.

For fuck sakes Phil, why haven't Blizzards called you up for an art job? This concept is just way too useful for the Protoss and I miss the reaver too, they were the shit! I remember when I had just the right amount of resources and population requirements I would make 4 teams of 3 of them and go to town on an unfortunate player

Again, wicked job dude! ^^

Well you fucking need to get it there for the final expansion, these units are great concepts and have abilities described well. Protoss vindicator needs to be made since we just have archon all the time, and in that final battle I expect to some funky new Protoss shit unravalled.
Keep it up, also, have u ever painted what you think a Xel'naga would look like? Or the Dark voice?

OH god another great protoss design and I totally agree with the reaver who is really badass in broodwar ^^. I love this unit to be a little proxy pylon-ish it would be awesome to drop one of these in the enemy's main and kill everything with colossus' you just warped in would give it an cool down tough just being overpowered. Or the missile absorb ability would be handy in the battle field aswell.
I love the whole concept of it and once again : THIS IS AWESOME please keep making these awesome protoss unit concepts I LOVE them

what dpi are you painting in?

it looks like it's under 300? and If that is the case, you should try setting it up to 300 dpi. It's the standard for printing, and it also just looks nicer
