Panel 01: who can guess who hot shirtless guy with an awesome whistle jingle may be? Now that he's on a horse...?(he doesn't identify from any movie, series or book, since he is from an advertisment, obvs.)*
What ho, Blind Mag (from Repo! The Genetic Opera)makes it into GND. Exact continuity with events in 'Roommates' is unreservedly fudged, as is the precise nature of her relationship with Erik, at this point.
As previously stated: giving the Phantom a blind girlfriend seems a bit trite and contrived, yet the Sarah Brightman connection and the emotional scars of both characters just make this too perfect a Crossover Ship to not explore.
Also, yes, the boys use cell phones.
And really, it *is* a bit odd that the ever insta-poofing, possessive and protective Goblin King was a no-show during that little kerfluffle on campus... non?

It just occurred to me--how much time has passed in-universe between the Paris incident and here? Β Because Sarah and Jareth's reunion just took place last night...and as much as I adore Erik/Mag and want them to be happy and gothy and crazy in their separate but complementary ways together always, it does seem like a rather quick turnaround time for a guy who finally got around to putting his doomed semi-requited romance of goodness-knows-how-long to rest.
Then again, that would explain a lot of Christine's "what am I, chopped liver?" reaction to the whole thing....

Goodness. I think the long action-packed day at uni was supposed to distract you from the exact chronology, but you're right, it is the very next day after their return from Paris. Although implied, some time, maybe a day or two, did pass during the 'Postcards' sequence, once the Big Talk with Raoul was done - that Erik spent jamming with Francoeur and visiting some old haunts and truly Getting Over It, while Jareth got his brood on.
This was supposedly Erik and Mag's first meeting, as she applies to work at the uni's music department. The keen-interest-turning-into-a-relationship is mostly off-camera and a fudged continuity catch-up with 'Roommates'... I suppose you must assume a decent-seeming amount of time passes between this and them tentatively hooking up.

Okay... somehow I had forgotten about Sarah's expressions in panels... oh... 8 through the end. Yeah.. she hadn't even been seriously close to calling on Jareth. Until the thought occurs to her that he wasn't there. She's miffed and trying not to be. And then she sees Greebo... and THEN she's terrified on his behalf.
Ahhh... how I love a Saturday afternoon when I have the time to savor during a re-read (and re-watch the Old Spice ads!).

I think that I agree with you that giving Erik a blind girlfriend is a bit trite, but I think it has its merits (besides those you mentioned). The only person who seems to be really upset about his deformity is himself, so perhaps in order to really let his guard down and be comfortable with someone, he needs someone like Mag? I don't know, I really do see the problems with this ship... but I think otherwise he would be horribly insecure all the time. And it's definitely less problematic than Erik/Christine.

Reading through again. It occurs to me that the Erik / Christine exchange in panels 9 & 10 are as much for Erik to show Christine that he still has LOTS of place for her in his life as it is Erik being that courteous and model gentleman (when he's not homicidal) in giving Sarah a little space to wonder / worry about her "glittery shadow".
Erik being chivalrous to give some individual attention to Christine would also serve to provide opportunity for Christine to pointedly AVOID asking any questions about Mag. Which would allow Erik to gloat, but later.
Oh, and I LOVE the cold air / visible breath that you do. Quite convincing!
