Alya's Story: Alya is a firebender born into a country feared by the rest of the world.
Despite popular belief, not all Fire Nation citizens condone tyranny, including Alya and her family. Her father, Otis, is an animal trainer while her mother, Marlena, is a firebender chef. When Alya was 11 years old, her family moved to the Earth Kingdom when an old family friend found new jobs for her parents. Despite being firebenders, Alya’s family managed to find residence in the Middle District of Fulan Du, the third largest Earth Kingdom city. Alya’s parents warned their children that the stigma as firebenders would be hard to bear but Alya was confident she can endure it.
As a firebender, Alya’s style is little unpredictable since she tends to follow her instincts and emotions. She does have complete mastery of the basic forms but with no practical application other than self-defense. After moving to Fulan Du, Alya forced herself not to use her firebending so that she could finally fit in and make friends. This often leads to dangerous outbursts of fire whenever she gets picked on for being a firebender.
When a year has passed, the locals began to tolerate Alya’s family when it was clear they were no longer loyal to the Fire Nation. Unfortunately, Alya had made no friends after building a strong but unpleasant reputation. She was roaming through her favorite shopping district when she saw a boy running from a scary-looking man. She helped him escape and find a hiding spot. The boy thanked her and introduced himself as Adrien. When she revealed her name and identity as a firebender he looked quite sacred, so she explained her unique situation. After that, he seemed less skittish so Alya began to make small talk. She was very happy to learn that he enjoyed the same hobbies. Eventually, they started talking about their favorite places around the city and made their way back to the shopping district.
As the sun began to set, Alya learned the real reason why Adrien was running away from a man, who turns out to be his bodyguard. She listened to him talk about his family, mostly about his parents. After what he did today, his father might not let him out ever again but he was happy to know that he made his first real friend with Alya. When he apologized at the end, Alya sincerely told him not to feel bad. In fact, she was happy that he had become her first real friend, too. She insisted that they continue to hang out and explore the city. He could meet her family and maybe she could talk to his dad about letting him out more often. Adrien doubted that would work but Alya merely added that she’ll just sneak him out anyway. As the two shared a laugh, Alya made a vow to Adrien that from that day onwards, they will remain the best of friends no matter what divided them.
