Description Muk
With the round head and broad mouth, I image muk to be something amphibian like, may it be a tail or tail-less one. This kind of animals is also heavily associated with poison.

This creature releases a substance from its body that is poisonous and smells very strongly. When this secrete comes in contact with air, it swells (like hagfish and their slime together with saltwater). Not only doest this make it uneatable but also protects its skin from drying out. Still, this creature need to drink a lot instead and can often be found around water.
The sludge is water based, and to keep it away from entering its eyes, the muk releases an oily substance from glands near the eyes.

The muk can almost eat anything organic. Rotting material from the bottom of lakes seems to be a favourite, but the broad mouth hints that it can hunt however, and it’s believed that they sometimes swallow other creatures that are slower then itself whole; it isn’t like something smelling that strongly and that is so slow can sneak upon prey very easily.
Its slow speed is not only due to the slime and its weight but also the fact that its diet contains very little energy.

Muks often causes issues in sewers as their thick poision clog up pipes, but what attracts them there it's the waste and the water.

Very nice job. Hope to see more!

Wow. I never imagined Muk this way. I always thought they were a Pokemon version of a slime mold. Maybe there is a way to combine these two concepts like the Muk having a symbiotic relationship with the slime mold. This is going to take a lot of thought.

Very cool idea, your concept is really neat! Slime molds doesn't get enought spotlight either, it's such an interesting type of organism.

MoonCat83 In reply to PKMN-AJ [2008-07-23 19:45:37 +0000 UTC]

Slime molds are underrated! We need to show them some love!

I have thought up an origin for the sludge Pokemon using my slime mold concept that made more sense than the "sludge that was transformed by X-rays from the Moon" theory. In my mind, these Pokemon have descended from an unknown slime mold Pokemon that took on toxic properties when humans started polluting the land they lived on. Basically, Grimer and Muk are the results of man-made changes in their environment, the ability to adapt quickly, and natural selection brought on by humans.

Maybe it could of had a gland for producing toxins to shoot at it's prey or something to slow it down. Or... it could lay small bits of it's sludge on the plants that other creatures would eat, than they would get sick and immobile, than Muk comes back eventually and it's it's sick and tired prey o.o Still, XD That's one heck of great explaination there.
