It's a little microscopic animal, something between a worm and a bug. Soft skin, squidgy little stumpy legs with claws on the end... you can see the picture. Most of them live in moss.
Their most distinctive feature is that they can dry out and go into suspended animation until they get wet again. They can stay in suspended animation for hundreds of years, and they're almost indestructible in this form - you can cook them, put them in liquid nitrogen, expose them to radiation, and then if you put them in water they'll wake up and start crawling round.
