Description Well, now that school's back in, and I'm going full-bore in my program, I won't have much time to put up these drawings. But I'll put up stuff when I have a minute.

Like this guy - a large, tapir-like grazer of the african savannah. Though he packs a trunk, the lifestyle of this heavy-set ungulate is much more like that of a rhinoceros - they live mainly solitary lives, only coming together to mate or fight over mating rights. Paentapirs (formerly known as megatapirs - see this initial sketch [link] ) are generally recognizable by their short, flexible trunks, forward-facing tusks, and terrible vision.
The Paentapirids (almost-tapirs) are a diverse group, with members having filled a variety of ecological niches across the old world. (One of the larger northern species is featured in the hunting fresco of this mesolithic hunting illustration [link] .)

Oh yeah. If it isn't at a comic shop near you, you could pick it up at the publisher's site: [link]

And I'm glad you like this critter - he's one of my favourites.

It's like Pyrotherium made love to a rhino.

Honestly, that's basically how I designed him. Just with a tiny hint more of proboscidean thrown in, to make those tusks a little more flashy.

I love teasing out the inspirations behind your creations. It's like finding the bones of endangered species in a fresh owl pellet, but without the danger of getting salmonella poisoning.

He looks like a very solitary animal.
Once your dinosauroids invent the modern printing press I can just see twee picture books for the chicks featuring valuable moral lessons and these guys as the main characters (they get eaten at the end ).

So believable I surprised that there hasn't been megatapirs before.
