You might recall my original reasoning for including Poochy: professorfandango.deviantart.c… in that I wanted a character who originated from the Yoshi series rather than the Mario series.
I think Poochy is a fine candidate for those parameters though the scope as a playable character is more debatable.

However! Since then Poochy has been promoted to a title character! In only a portable version, Poochy + Yoshi's Woolly World is still a surprising boost to the doggy's significance.

I do still think that playable might be stretching it, but maybe Poochy should finally appear in a stage, or as an assist trophy or maybe even a part of Yoshi's moveset?

As Yoshi's trusty steed, it's only a matter of time until Poochy rears up onto his back legs, grows a few more digits and starts playing tennis but the good news is that he'll still be around, presumably!
He's starting to cut quite a groove for himself in Nintendo history as is not nearly as disturbing as that bloody kangaroo and he even has his own amiibo!

Even more surprising is his cameo in Super Mario Odyssey! But then that just raises all sorts of questions and is further evidence that we really should just try to ignore the Mario "timeline" from now on. As for Poochy, let's hope he sticks around and maybe gets some even bigger parts in the future!
