Fav'd because it does an excellent job at pressing all kind of emotional buttons here and there. I'm an amateur artist and lately I've been able to level up in some fronts here and there, getting some more attention and watchers around, still not much but it is going slow and steady but the reward is powerful.
Artistic frustrations happen way more than one would want, and unfortunately there isn't much of a manual on how to get started nor how to progress, nor in how to even get people's attention to even look at your work in the first place, which is kinda the part that I think sucks the most. It often means going through some bitter times but eventually pays out.
Gonna just end saying something that I believe irks many because at first sight it doesn't seem much of an answer when one wants to reach a decent level quick. Basically you gotta be "Persistent and constant in your work", which I believe goes beyond simple "practice more", you gotta not only draw yourself but you've gotta be observant, be able to ask for help when needed (absolutely NO shame in there) and take in every piece of feedback you can. After all there are a lot of things that contribute to make a good artist, and many of those are unfortunately not visible, but being "persistent and constant" are gonna be the defining factor, always.

This made me very happy. I'm a writer, and the only people who really read my real work are my mom, big cousin(who is more like an older sister to me to be honest) and two of my friends... My dad doesn't care too much and doesn't give me much input other than it's interesting and good, he doesn't really even say anything that proves he read it to be honest... sometimes it's hard to remember why i write... but this helped me remember why. I love books, and according to those who do read my stories, the stories I pour my heart into, that I pull out of my dreams and craft with my soul, that I put on sticky notes and notebooks and into my phone and on my laptop, I have a good way with words. I want to make people happy like how reading makes me happy. I want to put them on an adventure, let them explore worlds I've made, both for them and myself. So thank you, for helping me remember why.

This is nothing but a fabricated fairy-tale to make people who will never be great at drawing (like me) believe in a bunch of lies.
And this is from someone who got recommended to see this 4 times, by like 4 different people in the course of my painful 5+ year practice.

You know, you've been a little harsh, but you're mostly right. This is beautifully drawn (I actually love this style. It's friggin' adorable), has a great narrative, and conveys a possitive message... but what happens to those who don't find satisfaction, and keep looking at that "golden girl" that they'll never be able to be as good as? What happens to those that have no more than 1 or 2 followers and want to draw for a living? Those that face reality, and realise they have no talent?
Art is not a competition, but a personal challenge that some of us cannot overcome, because of our lack of talent, because of expectatives, our fears, our circumstances... whatever.
Whereas I have no serious problems in life (yet), I think I know what you feel, man. And even though I'm not here to prove you wrong, I think you should keep drawing, even if it's just a hobby. Maybe you can let off some steam with your artwork, something not all people can do!

I've made this comment a while ago, and i was in a pretty dark moment back then, so my sincerest apologies for being rude.
However at the same time i still mostly believe that the ending went too far with the Deus ex Machina, specially for a topic as complex and complicated as this one and that maybe, projectTiGER could've come up with a better positive ending than this one.

CesarLocoDelLapiz In reply to UncleHerman [2017-12-04 15:42:39 +0000 UTC]
No problem. Even then, I'm sure you tried to be as polite as possible, even with that dark moments behind you.
As for this comic's ending, yeah, I feel it's a little rush. And sadly, that's not how things usually go. Not many people look up to small artists, like us, and those who do, usually doesn't find extremely appealing what they find. It's not true admiration, but rather "meh, I kinda like some of those pics".
I feel like projectTiGER could make a full series of this, maybe even a graphic novel, where the artistic processes and struggles could be better explained. Tigera has the potential to make something incredibly inspiring and memorable out of it.

If one negative comment out of 118 pages of them "hurts" someone's passion for art, then I have to doubt they had it to begin with.
Pls stop reminding me of this.

That's something that is easy to say when you're young, still have your life ahead of you, and think you have time to improve. When you're older you'll realize that it was all pointless, and you wasted your life chasing "dreams".

Exactly.
I don't see how it could turn anyone's mood to a 180° and give them the idea that "You're able to improve!" with such a deus-ex machina ending.
It doesn't take account of anyone who has either time problems, mental problems (like me), budget problems, and many more problems that cannot be easily tackle like this.

I have, all of the things that you just mentioned. I suffer from depression, I don't have much money, I don't have time between my studies and chores, but that doesn't stop me. I've seen people that started from the bottom, that have suffered from worse things than me, they didn't have any materials except for a pencil and a piece of paper, but they still made it. Maybe I'm an idiot for saying all of this and yeah you can go ahead and scream at me that I'm an idiot or any other , but at least try to find some good in what this person tried to show. Maybe the lesson the is show here doesn't fit you, but other people consider it inspiring and helpful. Just try to see the good that is within what seems to be bad.

My issue is primarily how every friend and visitor of mine just rolls in with this comic, thinking that "it's gonna be alright" and "you're gonna improve!" despite my really, really awful experience with improving in art and even learning where i'm at a point of deciding whenever or not i should just kill myself to end all of this pain of being totally useless.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BlueAngleWings22 In reply to UncleHerman [2017-08-22 02:37:24 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I get you on that, improving my art has been difficult, too. I can never see the improvements that other people mention. But believe me, I checked out your gallery and you have pretty good art there. I won't tell you that you will improve because that all depends on you, if decide to keep on drawing and trying to see what you can make out of it or just give up on drawing, it's all on you. As to killing your self. I would say no to that, maybe you hate your art, but that doesn't mean that you should kill yourself. Life is lock a clock if you enjoy it and try to make the best of your time, then things could go good. But if decide to move the clock all the way to 12:00 and killing yourself, then your not just giving up on life, but the people that love you and the people that you love. I hope that you don't kill yourself, you have so much to live for. Remember that without pain, we wouldn't see the beauty in the small things we have in life.
