Description Colin Morgan Art Challenge #8, after the style of Paul Gauguin. I loved putting in the orange dog, a feature I found in several Gauguin paintings. Some of the things I tried to emulate about Gauguin's style were his large blocks of solid colour, and heavy use of yellow and orange. I also tried to compose the drawing in a similar way to what he might do.

Oil pastel on drawing paper, 15 3/4 x 18", 10 hours.

Thanks! I quite like the oil pastels for this. The colour comes out so rich.

A great piece, like all of the ones in your challenge!
You managed to keep Colin's features in each of your drawings,no matter the style, and this is the most important thing and the challenge itself after all.
Well done!

Thank you, that is important to me. Colin wears his characters so intensely though, that even though I changed his outfit and his pose, he still looks like Tom Anderson here to me. Tom, in a sarong.

Someone asked me why he looks angry here, so I told them the two fangirls across the pond stole his clothes while he was swimming and just left him a sarong to wear. (Really it's because Tom was shot in the elbow in the ref I used)

You are welcome!
Haha, what a funny story! Well, to me he doesn't look angry at all, maybe in pain, now that I told me the story behind the ref photo!

Lovely, you've really nailed this one.  One of the things you've caught so well about Gauguin's style is a brilliant composition that reads well as a flat/abstract assembly of forms and colours as well as a more traditional "picture".  (and I love how you get Colin's likeness so well whatever style you're using.)

I can't tell you how happy your comments make me!  This is exactly what I was going for. His compositions are so interesting, and I really tried to break up the landscape and compose in a similar way, without just copying a drawing. And if I didn't get Colin's likeness I wouldn't be meeting the challenge so that's important to me.

So now I have to take a break from this challenge, because I want to do a couple of Christmas gift pictures, and I don't think they want pics of Colin.
