Description This monster took ten scans to put together, which is probably why I put off scanning it for so long. The Night-Bringer was my final project for my spring '06 woodcut class. It took me...I have no idea. A really long time and I was tearing my hair out over it. Must have turned out pretty well if I still like it two years later.

This print is the first appearance of the Night-Bringer herself, I've since done several more prints and whatnot that feature that helmetty-feathery-whatever-she-is. I don't even know, and I'm the one drawing her.

Two-block reduction woodcut (10 runs, I think), 22x28", 20 impressions.

Thank you so much! I feel the same way about people who do intaglio...I just don't have the patience to work on a single plate for hours doing tiny little adjustments.

Another great print I see. ^_^

It's got a bit more veriety of colour than most of your other prints ( at least, those of which I've seen.... ) but it's still recognisably your "style".

The characters certainly very interesting. ( It's the same one as [link] right? ) I really like the simple, yet effective design shown here. It's got a very tribal, cavepainting feel to it. The surroundings are very good to. It's got a very trippy, spirit world look which perfectly suits both the character and the overall mythos of the picture.

It's interesting how you're building up your own spirit world pantheon. What with puck, the night bringer, and some of the other suitably spirit-esq creations of yours ( [link] for example ) you seem to be building up quite a collection. It'd be interesting to see what sort of world, or at least what surroundings, they frequently haunt.

I do miss the alchemical symbols though. ^_^ They're probably not overly suitable for a picture like this, but some sort of tribalistic runes or cave painting symbols might have been a nice touch?

Thank you! This is probably the most colorful print I've ever done, I tend to stick with more muted colors.

Good eye on recognizing the character! I guess I consider the Night-Bringer kind of an aspect of Puck, and as for the frog-lady...well, I really have no idea what she is. A bastard child of my obsession with masks, mushrooms, and naked people, I guess.

Don't worry about the alchemical symbols, there are plenty more on the way. ^^ I actually did this print in '06, before I became really interested in symbology and started using it in my work.

PS...you always leave the best comments. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that you take the time to write so much about my work. :}

As for your thanks, it was no problem I assure you. You're very welcome as always. ^_^

Yes, I've noticed that. In a way, it's sort of a pity, because I actually prefer those "muted colours". They're certainly more in keeping for your more natural looking pictures ( like the afformentioned "frog-lady" picture... ) but for this particular piece, I think brighter colours are probably more suited. As I said, it has a very different feel from your usual pictures. In a way, it's actually the choice of colours that really sets this picture appart, since they give it a more tribal, spirit world feel. It would probably have worked just as well in your usual greens, but then it would have given a very different effect, a more sombre and morose effect more in mind of wet and dreery english woods rather than native american spirit guides.

There are a few minor differences ( and a someone more distinct one as far as wardrobe is concerned... ) but it's still fairly obvious. In many ways, I actually think those little changes are a crucial part of the characters appeal. It really helps set the scene as far as they are concerned, and helps embew them with traditional spirit qualities. After all, they're not physical beings, so why should they look exactly the same every time?

An aspect of Puck? I'd not thought of that possibility, but it makes sence I suppose. After all, night is part of the natural cycle after all. It certainly makes Puck more interesting, to know that she's mearly a facette of a greater whole. The central, nucleus perhaps, but still only a part of the whole picture. It's like she's got more to offer, more to know about her, and secrets one doesn't expect or think to look for, and that makes her even more engaging as a character.

There's nothing wrong with that. I'm sure many great characters had humbol beginning as a simple collection of concepts their creatures fixated about.

Ahh... that's good. ^_^ I wouldn't want to think otherwise. Thay're certainly a charming little personalising quality to your pictures, and I'd hate to be without them.

I do? I suppose I write more than most people, but it's ncie to know I apparently have some semblace of quality to my writing, as opposed to mearly quantity.
But either way, you're a good friend, and if it brightens up your day a little, then it's time well spent. ^_^
