Awesome depiction! The digging-rodent feel you gave him works very well. But he's still got that pokemon-esque charm. :3

What animal is the inspiration for this'n?

RacieB In reply to hiesetsu [2009-05-30 20:01:13 +0000 UTC]
Mostly pangolins, also a bit of armadillo and tamandua.

I only really see tamandua in maybe the face and ears, but those could be armadillo. Maybe I should stop looking so closely and just enjoy the art.

I vote Pangolins. If ya ever seen one, you'd know. Sandslashes just don't keep a complete brown color like some Pangolins, though some pangolins have a very light greyish-brown face.

Oh, I saw the picture you sent, and what I was attempting to communicate was thus: "I see much pangolin, but very little of the other two in Sandslash." I'm just bad at being understandable. Apologies.

Haha Sandslash does look awesome though! Whenever I draw realistic versions of PokΓ©mon I try to keep it as close to the original art as possible, as if the Ken Sugimori art was a caricature of a real animal XP
