Description
Here is the Old Guard leaving Buckingham Palace at the conclusion of the Changing of the Guard. The Old Guard is founded by the Grenadier Guards. Here is the Guard Captain (not necessarily a captain) and the Ensign carrying the Colours. The Captain of the Guard has just saluted the Royal Crest on the gates of the palace.The 'Old Guard' was founded by the Grenadier Guards, however oddly enough, the 'New Guard' (the guard replacing those on duty (the Old Guard) to those who don't know the particulars of the ceremony) was founded by the Royal Engineers, and not an infantry regiment. Odd isn't it? Bit of a shame really (no offence to any engineers out there), but I was looking forward to seeing the Coldstream Guards or the Scots Guards. Next time I hope.

There are five regiments of foot guards, Grenadier Guards, Coldstream Guards, Scots Guards, Welsh Guards, and 'Irish' Guards.
