Description Older work done for a sci-fi novel. Done without any 3d so the perspective is a bit off. I was trying to make an realistic design of the machine, hope you'll like it.
Just photoshop a and wacom.

Great Picture RadoJavor.

By the way, if you interested to know, the Consortium had VTOL like this in the 'Act of War High Treason' RTS game.

Could be Just the perspective but I keep thinking that the rear nacelles are mounted a little to far forward and inward than they should be to make a safe transition to level flight. It looks like there could be a risk that the rotars could strike the fuslage, sponsons or winglets during transition or in level flight.Β

The rear gun would be completely useless in level flight, unless it had some tight locks on it - mind you there are quite a few Helo's that have to have very restrictive traverse locks on the guns as well (you don't want to shoot down your own bird)

I also think that the rear rotars would have a few problems in level flight due to the airflow and engine exhaust from the forward engines (unless they shutdown the rear pair in level flight.

Still it is an awesome design and a great picture (as always) and gives pleasure to look at it (dispite my pedantic niggles)

Exactly; interesting combination! While I don't know much about areospace engineering, it was a good call to make something look like it designed with function in mind over appearance, ironically. Very well done.Β

I like this. Why the addition of outrigger wings instead of mounting pylons to the shoulder-wings which already host the engines? Presumably weight... but more importantly, reminiscent of Mi-24. This is some sort of MV-22, Mi-24, CH-47, AC-130 hybrid godkiller... and I kinda want it to be real.

SomeNavySEALs In reply to PavelKirilovich [2013-07-02 16:45:19 +0000 UTC]

Balance prolly. It's really important for VTOL aircraft to have near-perfect balance or you're going to run into some nasty problems. If you take a look at attack helicopters, you'll fin the pylons are always directly below the main rotor, the center of lift and the center of weight. For a four-engine monster like this, the center of lift/thrust would be in the middle. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

True that mate - I normally work with AFVs, not aircraft, and CoG requirements are of a different nature there. I was thinking that you could mount freefall/guided bomb racks to the aft outriggers and DF ordnance to the fore, but of course some mission profiles wouldn't call for one of the two and then you'd be unbalanced. Rado does a good job yet again.

Quite an awesome picture.

That Quadri-rotor looks like it's based a little on the CH-53 Sea Stallion family of helicopters if im correct. The general design at least suggests that. But yeah it looks quite good. The light effects and the background scenery are superb!
