Wonderful job on the perspective, it's great! You've made *shiari 's character so 3D. 8D
Great inking here. How do you keep your lines so clean? Mine are always wobbly and bleed into the paper. -_-

rah-bop In reply to Pastiche-X [2007-08-18 07:25:22 +0000 UTC]

I use micron pens, which don't bleed, happily. (Not into my sketchbook paper, anyway.) As for how to keep them from being wobbly... I don't know. Small areas at a time? Don't ink really slowly? Practice practice practice? D: Haven't really thought about it, but I'm sure that practice helps.

very cool!ummm did you ink it or edited it in photoshop?oh and what would you say is the best inking pen to use?i never really did it before so i was wondering...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rah-bop In reply to chargirl5000 [2007-08-16 04:00:23 +0000 UTC]

I inked it by hand using micron pens. I don't know if they're "the best" or anything, but they work pretty well for nice, clean lines.

planet pern ,story very OLD , you have not heARD of their dargons and their riders and all that they did. you missed some great stuff ,well I guess that's cool anyway ; GOOD JOB none the less!!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shiari In reply to wilwar77 [2007-08-17 03:06:03 +0000 UTC]

I know of Pern, naturally. I'm an avid McCaffrey fan. But the pernese dragons are awkward quadrupeds. Their forelimbs are shorter than their hind legs, yes, but they still hop/amble on all four (see: Dragonsdawn, the pages just before Sean and Carenath make their first flight). They also have feet more like a human's, and pentadactyl hands (see: Dragonlover's Guide to Pern). They have a series of dorsal ridges, along with large faceted eyes and head 'knobs', not horns. They also have a forked tail.

*This* is why I went "pernish?" because the shinoar, which are not at *all* related to pernese dragons, looking nothing like a pernese dragon. So yeah. ^_^;;

well in thje early ed's that is not how the fighting dragons where drawn the riders yes , guess the changed the bio's cause they came fdorm the fire lizards

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shiari In reply to wilwar77 [2007-08-17 22:57:52 +0000 UTC]

riding and fighting dragons are one and the same. And yes, they came from firelizards, who even in Dragonsong and Dragonsinger are described as being able to perch on a mantle and dig in with claws, something a therapodian-type would have great trouble with. ^_^;;

wilwar77 In reply to shiari [2007-08-18 12:29:08 +0000 UTC]

true but the thing is that there are two different sets of drawings depending onthe market,anyway the dragons are still well done!

shiari In reply to wilwar77 [2007-08-18 16:48:05 +0000 UTC]

really? I personally don't count any of the book covers, except those done by michael wheelin. I love the cover with Ruth on the rock spire as that is how I had always mentally seen the pernese dragons. The only illustrations that are truly 'official' are those in the dragonlover's guide to pern, since McCaffrey approved them. And gods... some of the cover art is sooo bad that I want to send her remakes of my own and go "For the love of your dragons, please put something not horendously ugly on the covers of your books!"

wilwar77 In reply to shiari [2007-08-19 02:36:33 +0000 UTC]

I hear you but ann approved them you know .I really got deep into the books ,have you done in the new ones by Todd yet he is writing the books with her approval seems that like the dune books she had laid out more that she did not write!!!.I collect books of real merit I just bought arsenal of miracles, old but one of the first to open up the sifi worlds for all readers

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shiari In reply to wilwar77 [2007-08-19 16:11:17 +0000 UTC]

sometimes I'm not so sure they have a choice. At least, I hope they don't and she didn't because then they have *absolutely* no taste/sense when it comes to art. Have you seen the cover with the lumpy gray dragon with the butterfly wings? I can't remember which of her novels it was on. Or the boxy, head-heavy, rectangle-winged things on dragons-eye? The poor green on the back looks like a cow! *sobs*

dragons are beautiful and the fighting ones even more so!!

shiari In reply to wilwar77 [2007-08-20 06:16:50 +0000 UTC]

No, I'm afraid I must say that some dragons are really really ugly. XD Beauty for me is 'natural'. And if the dragon doesn't look like it could be a living creature (and a lumpy pumpy thing with tiny wings is definitely not) then I dislike it greatly.
