Did he die as she lived?
celestial Golden boys wanting die as the old want more life?
OR do they? Did she ask? NOPE'
Maybe she was ready to die.
No... maybe she has to live another hundred years on this rock without any of her mates after they are all dead.
Who the shit would want to live forever?
With an internal time limit we'd never get the fuck on with anything.
Anyway. After life or ever living.
Its all going to get a bit old hat anyway after a thousand years in my opinion.

There are so many facets to this story. It's beautiful, haunting, happy, sad, and very intriguing. Amazing job, darlin.

A haunting and captivating concept, one very dear to my own heart. Besides that: Perfect length, amazing moodscape, and the finish is spot-on.
I know I'll take any excuse to throw this expression around; but after re-reading this piece, like, eight times, I can say it has honestly, truly, utterly earned the facial expression I now bestow upon it:
WITH FIRST CLASS HONOURS

I've tried many times but failed to thank you for this comment. Started typing but deleted, cancelled out.
Just know please that your praise means the world to me.

I love it when something touches me like this did. When it challenges and engages me. This, I will remember for a while.

... OK who what was that child? Herself?

RalfMaximus In reply to AngelofGod87 [2012-06-06 17:17:20 +0000 UTC]
I didn't see it that way.
She became the child at the end, but I think he was just a different kind of intelligence passing through. Something ancient but not necessarily wise in the ways of man.
Maybe angels start out this way and take centuries to grow up? Not sure.
But the result of the exchange was that both got what they wanted. For the child: a unique experience ending (an assumed) very long, possibly immortal lifetime.
Make sense?

It has already been said, but beautiful is a very fitting word for this. I love the mystery of the golden child and the innocence of his questions. At the same time, I feel haunted by the gnawing idea that this perfect little creature, who seemed so angelic and undaunted, dies with the words "This is...wonderful." If I were the old woman, those words would chill me. Such a perfect, painless child can still find a comparison as strong as "wonderful" to describe death, next to his own existence. It would make me wonder if I had not traded down to my new freedom and beginning.
A very thought-invoking piece. The simplicity of it only amplifies the experience. Very well done.

Such beautiful feedback!
Thank you for so deeply and utterly 'getting' what this was about, and for articulating it so well. Writers live for this kind of praise.
Totally made my month. ♥

This brought tears to my eyes and chills down my spine. The only word I can think of to describe it is exquisite... I can't even really describe. Beautiful, beautiful job.

This started out so much longer, but I hacked and reworked, stripping it down to bare bones. It seemed to get more potent with every edit, so I am VERY PLEASED you agree.
Thank you, darlin. ♥

This is...I dunno. Oddly magical. Yet somewhat scary on a sub-level. There is a both a rightness and a wrongness here.

Dammit Ralf, don't you know that there are just some secrets to our existence that you don't give away!
Now I have to zip back into my home dimension and reprogram your universe to make sure this story never happened. Too bad, it was quite nice, a very enchanting read....

Chances are, you already did this and the universe we're living in now is the result.
Causality is a biatch, my friend.

You need to turn this into a story, pal.
Or at least use as character dressing in one. It'd be like if Douglas Adams wrote Inception.👍: 0 ⏩: 1

I think you're right!
Just as soon as I finish this new jigsaw puzzle. It's a magic eye poster of a 1950's television set showing tv static. I've got the outer frame done and it doesn't look like much more than a square of pink vomit, yet it is strangely oddly compelling....
