Description This is for the Russian All Yesterdays. Considering my sloppy doodle of a dinosaur was featured in All Your Yesterdays and I got asked to contribute, I decided to draw up something more proper than a coloured doodle and coming from my field of interest.
Shown is an Archaea paradoxa eating a Lasius schiefferdeckeri. Archaeidae are a family of exclusive spider eaters and it is to be expected they were so in the Eocene. This speculation is based on an amber inclusion of an Archaea and an ant together and on the fact that other families of the archaeoidea do eat non-spiders (bl832store.lbl.gov/hmwood/Imag… . The strange prosoma morphology would be useful in eating ants, because the long chelicera allow the struggling prey to be held away from the body until the effect of the venom sets in, and like spiders, ants can bite.

That is one freaky cephalothorax. I never knew there were arachnids like this.

There are modern ones that have even longer necks than this.

Interesting, makes a lot of sense. I'm surprised they're exclusive spider eaters now.

On a side note, silly little pedipalps

Why, do you have any sources on them eating other animals? Because all sources I read about them stated they are eating only spiders.

Tiny pedipalps, funny heads and wrinkly booty.

No, it's just that their adaptation allows them to keep more things away from their bodies than just spiders. They could perhaps switch to other prey, it surprises me that the entire group only feeds on spiders... or do they have other adaptations making other prey impossible?

Misunderstood it, then. Not sure about any other adaptions, or whether there is something that special about spider bodies. But the photo in the link is a proof that the superfamily definitely munches at least flies as well.

Half of that went over my head, but I got to say it is an impressive-looking piece

It essentially boils down to a fossil assassin spider possibly eating something else other than spiders.
