A present for those few people who are disappointed to see Bete Noire move to Fictionpress.

For lolz, and because I want to put it down somewhere, here is a brief explanation of Hybrids!

Hybrid is a term used to describe American pattern combat cyborgs. This being said, in the America's, Hybrid is often used as a blanket term for all combat cyborgs. Generally, the subjects weakest arm is removed and replaced with one composed of a living metal (in turn, all Hybrids are ambidextrous). Within is either a Hues or Owens generator based off the OEADS Active defense system used in NATO vehicles. This generator runs electricity through the arm up to the hand where it is then ejected for various uses.

A popular concept in the 2020's and 2030's, the end of the second Sino-Indian War which saw both China and India destroyed left little motivation for governments, especially those in the west, to continue forward with such expensive programs. While most countries simply shut their programs down and allowed there Hybrids to go on and live normal lives, the US privatized its program. The remaining Hues Hybrids were captured and either used to breed new Hybrids or were used to train the next generation.

The biometal used in Hybrids is compatible with 45% of people. Of that 45%, less than 5% of these people can use a Hues class generator (the more powerful of the two). Lower end Hybrids are generally either metal manipulators who specialize in using magnetic objects or electricity users who are nothing more than walking tasers. Higher end Hybrids are far more capable. Hues class Hybrids are capable of both of electricity and metal skills, often with little or no experience. Furthermore, they can inherit traits from their parents as well as develop there own overtime. In Laurence's case, she gained the ability to move non metallic objects from her mother and the ability to "multi-task" (ie create a shield and attack at the same time) from her father. While she isn't the strongest of the high end new Hues Hybrids, Laurence certainly has one of the more versatile skill sets. Often Hues Hybrids have one parent without any abilities or end up specializing in the universal abilities such as shield generation, electricity or metal manipulation. Living a relatively peaceful life has blocked Laurence from developing her own set of abilities, but that is set to change...
