Description Not sure if the dragon is eyeing the snacks in the hand or the girl. Heh. Chose a red palette to convey danger ... dunno if that worked.

Did this to practice 1) dragons 2) new software and 3) using limited palette, plus break myself off the habit of overdetailing areas that don't need detailing, such as shadows.

Done with Corel Painter 12 and WACOM Intuos 4 tablet. Sigh, I really miss Photoshop.

Thanks. And yes, I do have Photoshop. I just stopped using it for a while because I was trying to learn Corel Painter 12. Horrible software.

I can't decide which pulls my attention more. The dragon head or the elf woman. When i first look, that dragon face fills my eyes. That glowy thing in the back of it seems perfect complement to this wise old dragon who is deciding whether to be evil or wise. His face just looks right, in proportion, symmetry, all the horns. Very interesting to look at.

But my gaze quickly falls to and settles on the gorgeous woman. I'm actually wondering why she seems so still, like I'm forgetting it's a painting. I really like this.

Thanks. I'm glad you like it. Makes my struggle with Corel Painter 12 worthwhile.

(I still hate the software though )

i like it! to me the red seems to imply that this would be very dangerous to mere mortals, but because she has a supernatural quality she feels quite safe here... the look on her face is like she is just realizing her power over the beast

You got all that from the painting? Cool. I did use red to convey threat or danger, so yay. Dunno about power over the dragon; I was going for hopeful trepidation. But I like your interpretation.

Thanks for the comment.

Overall structure of the dragon is great, like the last one.

Hate to say it, though, but dragon skin needs detail: reptilian or snake-like scales. And yes, I know how much time that level of detail takes, but that's what lifts dragon pics into the realms of awesome.

The woman's great - love the expression and the lighting. The cloth's fantastic also - can almost touch the folds.

Thanks. I was actually trying to go for the painterly look, i.e. implying the details but not rendering them. But if ppl can’t see the hint of scales then I guess I failed.

I can see the hint around the snout.

Maybe I just think of the late Keith Parkinson when I see dragons. He was a superb dragon painter.

Come to think of it, I think I have one of his artbooks around - I can pass it to Scott if you want to borrow it.

Sure, that'll be great, thanks. My only guides to dragons are WoW and some tuts on dA.

This looks really good Her face is the most grabbing thing, honestly. And I like the dragon's eyes. A very nice glowy effect

I always enjoy the smooth panted look of your artwork.

Is this smooth? I tried not to blend much here. Trying not to be so anal.

Thanks for the fave, hon, and your shading is fine.

Back to your character now.

Well to me it is. Smooth but with a painter feel. Not smooth as in a visibly digital smooth effect.

: ) And I am hoping to line art yours tonight or tomorrow ^^
